Hi Laura! I had my surgery for colon cancer 3 to 4 months ago where they removed my large intestine and left my small intestine and so I have a Ostomy. They found some cancer cells on a pylon but after sending the LG.intestine to pathology they found no cancer cells in it so I did not have kemotherpy but I was very depressed over the whole process. I found you online and after seeing and watching all your videos your expertise has been a Blessing to me. I don't feel the depression that I had before and have learned a tremendous amount from you. Under loose fitting clothes for underwear I wear bikini briefs with my bag hanging outside them, then I have tights which I have cut the legs off and wear these on top. This keeps things in place. I also have some cycling short type things that I wear in the same way under loose clothes such as dresses or loose trousers.

Great video. Any product ideas for kids with ostomies though? Besides the stealth belt which is super expensive. I have a 9 year old daughter and she's using a Benik belt but it doesn't conceal her bag so well. Also, for her, she fills up her bag really fast, like 600ml in 5 minutes. Any suggestions? She's getting to the age where she cares about her clothes and such. OH and she hates dresses - lol.

+Tara Woodbury to slow down her output, I would ask her doctor if she can take Imodium or other anti-diarrhea pills. Also, eating things like bananas, rice, applesauce and toast, as well as noodles, mashed potatoes, etc. help thicken and slow output. As for dressing, I would suggest she wear a tight camisole or tank top under her clothing or she could find a bando that will fit around her waist. Also, of course, the patterns and flowy style works well for anyone with an ostomy! I hope she finds some cute clothes she loves!

Hi Laura, I think you might have meant to say loop ileostomy in your video as all types of ostomy are diverting. You're doing great work. I enjoy your videos.

Back in '87, my stoma began its life by protruding about 1/2", then slowly shrunk over the years until it was flush with my skin (and sometimes even below it!). Wearing clothes that put *any* pressure on the stoma would flatten it out to the point it would cause leaks. The stoma wouldn't protrude far enough into the bag to avoid poop creeping between it and my abdomen. It sucked! Or... blew? Anyway... I've only ever worn pants that weren't super tight (including yoga pants a size too large for reassurance) and never delved into wearing jeans of any sort, even if they weren't that tight and the waistband was nowhere near my stoma. I've never tucked tops in for the same reason. Eight months ago, I had a revision and a new, 1"-long stoma. Fewer leaks overall, but I'm not at all brave enough to try tighter clothing. Do you think my new -further-protruding- stoma would allow me to wear real clothes again? I mean... it's been, like, 33 years. :o(

Hello Laura, Just wanted to say thank you for all your help/videos. You are truly an inspiration. 4 weeks, my bowel ruptured and it nearly killed me, i now have an ostomy and pretty lost as to what to do. I am worried about wearing any tight clothes over my ostomy, i'm afraid the output won't be able to come out and will cause another rupture! Also, my stoma and arond my stoma hurts all the time! It's not the skin that hurts but rather my actual stoma and insides. Is this normal? Will the pain go away after i've had the stoma for a while?

Hi Kerry, I realize your message was 6 years ago, but I'm curious as to how things are going with you these days. Your comment got my attention because the stoma itself has no nerve endings in it, so there is no feeling. I've no doubt you felt/feel pain in that area, but wonder just what's going on. I hope everything's well with you!
