What a awesome video Kayla! I learned to drive on a stick shift accept mine was on the column and was a three speed. They called it the old three on a tree. But I have driven those on the floor too as one of my trucks had a floor shift. I enjoyed your lesson and you were spot on on just about everything. Wish I had a pretty teacher like you to teach me when I learned but it was my mom that taught me and let me learn on my own in a huge parking lot. I really had fun when I did it. I learned not on a Camaro but on a 1964 Rambler Classic that really made it fun for me! Great job Kayla!

The engagement point was a very good tip. I learned that by putting the e brake on and doing it 3 times. Once I knew the engagement point it made it easier to accelerate even when you are at a stop in an uphill 😥 with a car behind you with only 3 feet of space between us 🙄. Hate those people. Great video.

For the timing of switching gear, I would check rpm instead of speed. Up switching gear at ~2500rpm is like eco mode; switching gear at 4000rpm or above is like sport mode. I only use 6th gear on highways (if it has one), but that for common cars with 1:1 gear ratio at 4th gear.

It's funny to watch you because I can tell your past the learning stage, because everything you do when you drive normally in your other videos is seamless. But after you put the camera on the passenger side to give a full view of yourself, I could tell you were conscious about what you were doing and could tell your shifts weren't quite as smooth as they normally are. LoL I only know this because I find myself doing the exact same thing. You did a great job though, as usual! 😎👍

Kayla: Kudos for taking up a subject with tons of opinions for best technique. Great camera work, btw. I agree that mastering the "feel" for when the clutch engages is important skill. My 2 cents to add (maybe a later video) is mastering throttle control. Coasting, closing the throttle in gear, feathering it when traction issues arise, etc. As always, you jump in and your Camaro is a rolling statement that you..live cars.👍

@@KaylaRundle Kayla: Agreed because each person learns differently. I personally teach people in a parking lot and I get out of the car and let them drive along while having a cell on speaker. I turn that shit off on my 16 fiesta st which is my daily I been driving manual my entire driving career which is now more than 20 years. Literally all 8 mustangs I've owned, my 03 svt focus, my current 16 fiesta st, my old 91 prelude si and my old 97 base neon and 94 s10 were all manual trans. Every vehicle I have ever owned has been manual weather it's a daily or a hot rod. I just prefer manual its all I've ever known I just love it. Alot of people can drive one as in get from point a to point b but really DRIVING one proper with proper powershifts and rev matched downshift (manually not that computer does it for you crap) and heel toe downshifting all that is truly becoming a lost art and it is sad. I am so proud that I can drive a manual pretty good and proper and I can do all those things because I practice it all the time. My current hot rod is a bolt on 07 gt500. That mgw shifter and rst twin disc make powershifting like a boss alot easier. I absolutely love driving manual and I love the reactions when people with autos with similar power to weight ratio run door to door with you and cannot beleive you're able to run beside them in a manual...most people think it's not even possible it's so rare these days lol. It's such a good feeling. I love manuals I'll drive them as long as I'm physically able to.
