Dear Dr Paul, very nicely done. The cleaning results does show in the photo on the right. Love the document cleaning pad and Ibjust use the crumbs and my fingers much as you do. Very messy clean up. A single crumb left on the cover can cause problems later.

Thank you Professor! Although there are pros and cons to using them, something everyone should have in their tool kit. 👍🏽

I'm one of those who used the cleaning bag to gently rub on the cover, I thought that was how to use it. Now I will try the way you showed it, using just your fingers. Thanks.

i've been using the document pad since i saw your first video months ago . i'm using it on GA and SA DC books in my collection . it makes a huge difference , IMHO ! like in this video , it does take a lot of time to do the job right the first time . i've also been using the LED blue light to lighten up my books and to get rid of foxing on some of them . even though i've watched most of your videos , the only thing i've yet to try is an aqueous bath . i'm a big baby , not sure if i ever want to try that . i just want to thank you again for all of your hard work making these videos for the comic community . it is appreciated by this comic collector . thanks , Dr. Paul !!!!!!

So interesting to see the powder look like it comes in a Parmesan dispenser. It makes sense that having the eraser crumbs uniform in size is beneficial as it maximizes the surface area. I assume that you receive a fair amount of criticism for using your barehands since you justified the use of dry, clean barehands when handling your comics. It’s understandable why some people think that wearing gloves is best but as you mentioned it seems to be well documented why clean and dry hands are more beneficial. Definitely took the time to vote for you.

I like to use absorene to roll over the lingering eraser crumbs. It's an extra step that a cotton round can do but I think it's worthwhile.

I have seen the use of the bag cleaning from some but we used them in days gone by in drafting . So it's good reuse of products not used as much now that we use so much computer generated graphics.

I have bought both from Amazon came yesterday glad I found your channel this week, I was definitely going to wear gloves 😅 & I was thinking of a sifter (powdered sugar) for the dispensing I’m a chef 🤞🏽

With respect to the gloves issue, I respect the view that you put forth from professional conservationists. However even after a thorough wash with soap and water there will always be a biofilm on your hands. Also, it may depend on the individual; some people are more glandular and sweat more than others

Noah, your statements are true. This video was in reaction to some folks "coming at" me and attempting to "correct" me for not wearing gloves on the channel. I would never tell someone else how they ought to handle their comic books. I only provide the best information i'm aware of, from trusted sources like the Library of Congress, the National Archives, and the International Federation of Libraries, all of which insist clean dry bare hands are better for handling important and historical books. In fact, these institutions literally will not allow you to wear gloves and examine documents under their care. Anyone who thinks they know more than these institutions regarding the care and preservation of rare and valuable documents might want to re-check their own credentials and thoughts on the subject.

Great video, thank you. I've been using the DCP as per your video after I do a clean using the erasers on the white sections. One a book recently I found a little bit of white on the cover that i'd missed on my first time around whilst the powder was on the book I used my mono eraser and it came up brilliantly, almost like the combo of eraser and crumbs polished the white - have you tried this (only on white areas) using the crumbs and the eraser in simultaneously? Thank you

Spiders, yes, they work wonderfully together!
@spiderscomics118024 күн бұрын
@@DrPaulKosnik Thank you Dr. Paul. The white title of Action Comics has never been so white! I'll continue with a first clean with erasers, then DCP the coloured sections and then go over the white portions again :) Books with a lot of white in the covers could really be improved by this 2 process technique

I've only sent 5 books in so far to be graded. I'm admittedly not very experienced at cleaning and was cleaning a couple trouble spots on a high end book and noticed I took some gloss off. You said in this video you were going to show how to burnish to restore gloss. Maybe you're going to do it in the next video? Anyhow, if I can't restore the gloss, does CGC ding you very hard for that?

How much is the rusty staple going to cost the grade?

@@DavidClark-vu3dw difficult to say as I don’t consider myself a grading expert. My guess is 6.0 range but we’ll find out soon.
