Thanks for posting this video. I had to do this today and used the technique you describe in the video. However, I found the edge from the selection was still noticeable, regardless of how much blurring or dodging I tried. Then, I found a tutorial on blurring a face in PhotoShop and that technique worked far better. The basic idea is to duplicate the main image layer, apply a blur to that image, then use a layer mask to reveal the areas you want to blur. The result of this technique is *no* selection edge is present so the blur looks much more clean. The PhotoShop technique is easy to do in GIMP as well.
