Hey guys!
Well, here we are again, another hard-fought week and another video out to you all. This one is all about the Loomis Method, I'm sure you have at least heard about this drawing approach. In this video, I am taking you through and drawing (6) different angeled heads. On paper, the Loomis method sounds complex but after you've drawn a handful you will start to appreciate its simplicity. Here are some links to helpful tools if you want to give this approach a try. Stay happy, stay healthy, and remember #neverstopdrawing

Do you ever change/alter the proportions depending on the subject? This is a very good starting guide, and I’m curious if it would apply to any face?

I do change the proportions slightly depending on the angle 📐 of the subject.

What is the ratio of smaller circle to bigger circle ? From front view , it looks bigger but at side view ite like 1/3
@MesserCreations
@MesserCreations 6 ай бұрын
That’s because there is no exact ratio. Every head will be slightly different which is why your oval will vary in its size in relation to the initial circle. Multiple factors will determine your ovals size but a general rule is that when you’re drawing your side oval think to yourself that the top of it needs to fall roughly in line with where you will be placing the subjects hairline. The bottom of it will be roughly where the bottom of the subjects’ nose is.

please can you explain the angle of the cheek at 12:12
@MesserCreations
@MesserCreations 9 ай бұрын
Sure thing, the cheek plane comes from the center of the horizontal and vertical axis on the side plane of the head. In that specific angle you cannot see the side plane but you can use the brow line as the beginning of the cheek plane because the brow line starts along the same axis. Does that explanation help?

Absolutely my friend :) I have a whole bunch of videos on my Skillshare where I teach how to properly place the features on the Loomis head based off of reference photos. I will give you the referral link, its free for the first month, after that if you want to pay for Skillshare you can. I will say that there are a whole bunch of great Art teachers on there so it would be a good investment to make. Here is the link, I hope it helps you on your journey skl.sh/3TTQMWs

But like what if you need to draw fast like say you want to become an animator they can draw like thousands of heads without doing any guidelines will you eventually remember where everything goes without having to draw construction lines?
@MesserCreations
@MesserCreations Жыл бұрын
Absolutely, these guidelines are for basic understanding and practice. Think of them like training wheels, eventually they come off, and you ride on without them just fine. 😊

@@MesserCreations yeah I've been doing the Loomis method a lot lately drawing lots of heads and everything probably like 60 a day I'm getting a bit faster and I guess I can start to like imagine the guidelines in my head without actually drawing them I just want to keep improving
@MesserCreations
@MesserCreations Жыл бұрын
That’s me too, I’m always drawing them so I can improve. For me it’s more about building the muscle memory for knowing the basic structure of the head.
