what about ic card is it a must to buy the ticket? if ic card is allowed can i just take the rapid train?

We use a suica on our phones for subways and local trains. I’ve never used the suica for the airport train. You may be able to use it for the normal airport train but would need to buy an additional reserved seat on the rapidt. We just bought our ticket with cash. I’ve bought the rapidt ticket online before with an attached subway pass but that was pre covid.
