Found it way easier to use the boost but move a little in the opposite direction to the button input then press it pretty much as soon as you see it pop up

I actually really enjoy this fight, the Untouchable achievement was really fun to go for! Sonic’s “Can’t Touch This” achievement, however, was hell on earth, and I had to do it twice, once in the original game and again in the remaster, and I hated it both times

I did it twice too i got it first on sonic x shadow generation then on original on ps3 it had different buttons so i had harder times on ps3 since all buttons was on wrong place it felt wrong but i did it after 24 hour practice

I wound up goofing up at the part where this video ends and had to go through one more session of neck-swipe attacks and this one had 3 swipes. However, the suggestions here prepared me for that session and the neck-swipes actually left Doom's head open for attack and that finished the fight. Thank you very much for breaking this fight down for us!

Great guide. My personal tip is to stay on one side and spam either left or right bumper (according to which side you’re hugging) when Neo Devil Doom is shooting his “seeds.” I got the S rank a few days ago without getting hit and didn’t get the trophy. Gonna be going back and trying again with this guide.

Awesome guide! One other thing I’ll mention is that in the second phase, dash jumping is REALLY OP and lets you skip past most platforms and remove any risk of the platforms destroyed by the lasers. Dash jumping off the right platform that you wall jump between at the start of the second part of phase 2 in particular can make that part (and part 3 when you go back there) much easier and faster

Took me a lot of tries (mostly because Doom Morph is atrocious,I restarted more times in that phase than in the last one) but I managed to get both the Untouchable trophy and just barely the S rank,I cleared it in 4 minutes and 16 seconds with exactly 40000 points,talk about lucky😮‍💨 Btw I highly suggest anyone struggling with this to switch to the Standard controllers if you’re using the Legacy setting,I ended up losing right at the end once because I had to switch between the square and x buttons really fast but with the Standard controls it was much easier thanks to being able to use two fingers instead of just my thumb,I ended up defeating the boss on my third try after that one thanks to that.

The tail swipe makes no sense. The light either goes high or low but then randomly hits a height regardless of the flash

Yeah so if your at the bottom and he flashes he will swipe at the bottom and if your at the top and flashes he will swipe at the top that messed me up to at first until I figured it out than the level was a breeze

Im pretty sure the walls in the 3rd phase do count as being hit but at the same time i had to use the retry button after being hit from a previous attempt right before hand so idk if that has anything to do with it but i just recommend trying your hardest to play safe and dont boost when the walls come up

I just got the "Untouchable" and the platinum trophy earlier at 10:46p.m. 10/27/2024! It was pretty tough and through over an hour of attempts I FINALLY got it! At first it was a little tricky even my first play through was over 7 minutes long so I had to get used to it and eventually I went through those sections like a BOSS although I did fail miserably many times but I eventually got it! Apparently, even falling off the stage in phase 2 also counts as being hit. I didn't get hit once througout but fell off the stage and the trophy didn't pop. However, I got it after a couple more attempts!

Not related to the s rank but Imagine if in this fight during either the whole fight or just phase 3, black doom turning into either devil doom or Neo devil doom enhanced not only his powers, but also put shadows doom powers into overdrive, causing shadow to sprout a even bigger set of doom wings ( maybe even a extra pair or two of wings as well), gets a body design similar to the doom surf or doom morph but in the shape of shadows body, shadows mouth becomes like the mouth on some of the doom morph’s concept art (a giant venom like mouth but it goes further back and is unhinged, or look at the concept art) and claws that are like the doom spears, and his spines also look like the doom spears. And if your wondering about his shoes or his gloves, they just get covered up by the doom “stuff”(idk what it’s called) just like the rest of his body

That makes sense. Doom and Shadow are connected, so Doom going all-out would likely influence Shadow's biology. I also would have preferred if Doom Surf looked like it was attached to Shadow rather than a separate creature that he rides.

Oddly enough, this one I did by complete accident. 1st time, I got a C rank and basically misunderstood his whole fight. 2nd time, I went in being more experienced with the powers and not only got an S rank, got Untouchable. I didn’t even know Shadow had this achievement either! It was completely accidental, I was only worried about the S rank. I just became hyper observant and was much more experienced with the powers in the first place than I was on my initial run.

The doom morph ‘orbs’ are widely inconsistent, the game struggles trying to tell what you’re trying to do no matter what you input - it’s 50/50 whether you’ll swing or go through it. The blue worm things during the flying section , it’s hard to tell where they actually are in relation to Shadow because they’re see through and there’s so much going on on the screen. Then the tail swipes can be a little unfair because sometimes he can go vertical, it’s near impossible to react to. Playing this boss battle casually sure is fun but trying to go for S rank/no damage really shows it’s a bit of a mess.

I got the Untouchable trophy and the S rank in 03:46:01. In the 2nd phase, you can skip a few platforms by boosting and that’ll save roughly 10 seconds.

Few things to note: There’s a sound que for when you get hit whilst in devil wing, same one used from the sonic generations final boss fight. If you hear it, safe to assume that’s a hit and best to reset. That includes when you bump into the red/purple platforms or the blue spears (without quick stepping them/using the bumpers) during the neo doom phase. (Yes I can confirm that counts I had a failed run where hitting the platforms didn’t count it) Also you can’t take damage/get “hit” period, has to be a flawless run for all 3 phases.

Watch out for any of the walls in the Doom Wing section and don't fall during the doom morph section. Hope that helps!

I'm having a hard time comboing this boss. Like whenever I do a homing attack on him, most of the time, Shadow will punch him once and then the boss backs off and I don't do full damage, no matter how fast I mash the homing attack button.

You don't have to beat Devil Doom in under 4 minutes to get the S-Rank. I defeated him in 4 minutes and 7 seconds and still got it. I know the game likes to show you how much faster you need to be to get the S-Rank but I wouldn't take this too seriously. It happened to me several times that the game wanted me to be more the 20 seconds faster to get an S-Rank but I still got the S-Rank just for being around 10 seconds faster than the last time because I've collected much more rings than before. As far as I know you need 40.000 points to get an S-Rank (this should count for all stages and boss fights). I assume that you get most of the points for reaching the goal as fast as possible but collecting rings should also help you to get a few points. 5:40 I am definitely going to try this out in the future. Maybe this will help me getting the S-Rank without spending almost an hour on figthing this jerk like I used to ... Thanks for your help!

It's funny. The Untouchable achievement in Shadow Generations is definitely more difficult that Can't Touch This in Sonic Gens, but I'd argue that Untouchable feels more fair. In Sonic Gens, the final boss fight is practically unplayable, with awful controls and obnoxious mechanics resulting in an atmosphere where you can be hit at any time. Shadow Gens however, whenever you mess up it's YOUR fault, not some random bad luck RNG. Even though the fight in Shadow is longer, has more varying mechanics, and is easier to mess up at any given time, it feels more fair to play.

The third phase, when I deflect those projectiles, and it prompts me to boost, why does it seem I can’t keep up and miss my opportunity to attack? Am I supposed to hit all the projectiles before boosting or boost immediately when I see the prompt?

I think you need to boost immediately when you see the prompt and it probably helps to not spin while you're doing it. I have similar problems with that part and it feels like boosting as soon as you're prompted to is the difference maker.

What I'm seeing in other comments is that where you're positioned when Doom's eye flashes is where he'll swing. As the video says, it helps to put yourself all the way to the top of bottom before the flash so that when he swings, you can go all the way in the other direction and have room to dodge.

Dont get hit by the platforms or blue spears, that’s where I noticed most people getting hit during neo doom. First set of red/purple platforms you have to boost through otherwise they’ll likely close on you and you’ll get hit. For the 2nd set of platforms I recommend slowing down a bit (dont boost) and following the rings. Quick step tends to be unreliable for those due to how tight the holes are
