My grandpa has pigeons. I spend hours as a child just sitting with a hand full of food, waiting for the newly grown up pigeons to come closer and trust me. It was very rewarding every single year; going from “too afraid to come near” to “fifty pigeons fighting over the food in my hand”. Not what most six-year-olds do for fun, probably, but I cherish those memories a lot :) (fun fact: I was allergic to them as well, but I still pushed through 😂)

Good morning and hello Frank from innisfil Ontario Canada. I'm a pigeon racer since the 70s not knowing too much about pigeons sport but really Excelled at the sport around 2006 until 2014 only to put the pigeons on hold until 2020. Now back into the hobby once again. We have the same teacher Jm. He is a book of knowledge and a great friend. Keep up with what you are doing and you will do well at your sport. I also like that you are involving the rest of your family Members that is so beautiful. GOOD LUCK and your going to do well.

I have 2 indoor pet pigeons and the first one i got, i didn’t know that I should’ve hand fed her, so i gave her a food bowl. Shes very food aggressive now to anyone who goes near her food bowl and will guard her cage even when she has free roam time. But for my second pigeon, i hand feed him and he has no aggression whatsoever, so hand feeding is a great method Ive realized

Hello, Great work man! I have a pigeon from the street since it was little. Now it loves me it comes to me every day. When i go to work comes to my head. Sometimes wants to sleep with me in the same room. I thing is that i want to take it outside the house to fly. I'm afraid that if i take it outside or i leave the window open it will fly and never come back. I don't want to die outside since he was at my home most of his life. There is a way going outside with it and be sure that it will come back? Happy flying!!!

Can you recommend me any birdseed that pigeons might like?
@shrimp39813 жыл бұрын
I get a massive bag of birdseed from costco, its just a mix of seeds for $30 and so far its lasted me 6 months and i still have food left over. And i mix it with pellets for chickens bc they need calcium in their diet. And a lot of people don’t recommend all seed diets, so mixing pellets in balances that out. Pigeons love millet, but sunflower feeds are my pigeon’s all time favorite. Its like candy to them
@fasterpigeons50013 жыл бұрын
Most grocery stores sell wild bird mixes that pigeons would be fine with. Pigeons are very hardy and can survive on various grains. In your specific case a Walmart wild bird mix would be fine. I like to give peanuts as treats as well as flaxseed, rapeseed and other small oily seeds (This is called candy mix) Good Luck

How to train a young birds to prevent over fly
@fasterpigeons50013 жыл бұрын
Over fly during I race I assume you mean right? There are several factors to prevent this...First is feeding just enough for the bird to want to come home, if they are not hungry on race day they will just keep going as they are having a good time. The other factor is using droppers to help as a visual aid(Throw the dropper to the landing board when the group comes). The third your whistle training. Last, good luck! Lol. We all have this problem but making adjustments here and there help.
@akhileshwarsharma41372 жыл бұрын
Look at them ..how they are eating food like they had never before . Just to make them your friend.you keep them whole day hungry. So that they can eat within your hand. I think it's a bad idea I have two white pigeons and I never try to keep their food stay away from . I think it's nature tendency after some time they will definitely be your friend. It can take some time and care

@fasterpigeons50013 жыл бұрын
Does he have access to other food? It seems unlikely that he go that long. I would try to offer the food daily from this point, but instead leave a small amount of food behind in front of him rather than taking it back. Make sure he can see it came from you. Try this for a few days and you should see a response once he associates you and the feed. Good Luck!

It acts like the white pigeon from the video. Can you tell me how i can gain its trust so i can hand feed it? This video was very helpful, but i didn't have other pigeons.
@fasterpigeons50013 жыл бұрын
Pigeons respond well to routine. I would make a scheduled time for feeding twice a day if possible. Once in the morning and then in the afternoon. Remove all food in between these times. In the morning offer the food in your hand briefly and wait a few seconds for it to eat. In the beginning it may not eat so you can drop a few seeds in front of it so it knows what this means. Then withdraw and try again in the next session. Give it time and repetition and it will learn that you are the source of the food. Another method is to leave a peanut or other grain in the same place each morning as you go about. Eventually they realize and will come to you for the food. Avoid sudden movements, loud noises, or grabbing it with your hands as you are doing this, they may associate you with the negative experience. Good Luck!

@@fasterpigeons5001 Thank you so much for your help! I have another question, what does it mean when it makes a throaty croaking like noise instead of cooing. It makes this sound every morning and evening. Does this mean the pigeon is unhappy or sick?

@@machinegunsally1874 It sounds like you are talking about grunting. Some birds make this sound when they are concerned by someone or something. Males grunt or coo also when calling the hen to the nest.

I feel he's really lonely, constantly at the window trying to communicate with outside birds chilling on the bird feeder. Can i let him go? Maybe he'll go straight for the trees outside the window??? Maybe he'll make a family? Maybe he'll see the other birds eat from the feeder?? Or will he fly super far away and starve to death?????? What should i do 🫣🥺
