Thats a good haul 😊. I agree with purchasing a large bag of oats, I think they’re about 75p for a kilo, you certainly get your money’s worth out of that. Also I tend to bulk up with pasta and spaghetti, very cheap. Only a true scrimper would appreciate this but, I buy full fat milk and dilute it by 1/3 with water, I get a bit more out of the pint and don’t really notice any difference in taste. Also, when I buy spring onions ( reduced of course) I pop the bottom parts in water and they grow back for an extra yield, same with cress.

Some great ideas here! Gives you an idea what can sustain one person for a week. I would add a bag of porridge oats instead of the rice pudding which would go much further. Buying the larger milk and decanting some to freeze if you think you're not going to use it all. Would definitely have added a few more carrots and bananas for extra fruit and veg intake. A larger tin of beans wouldn't have been too much more and would do x2 beans on toast lunches (just make sure you take out of tin to store in fridge for a different day)

Completely gob smacked at how affordable everything, even if it's not top notch in terms of flavour for those prices and when it's not for long who cares!! :) I would put one of the tins of vegetable soup into your curry, would make it go further and would add some more veg as well. :) Also, I would go back to the store with your change and get whatever else you can afford, probably for those prices you could get porridge oats, another milk and a couple more bananas, or definitely some extra carrots. Really looking forward to seeing the follow up video showing what you made out of that huge haul! All of that would cost so much more in Australia, even with the exchange rate factored in!!

I brought myself a chest freezer. Frozen veg even the cheap items are good value. Most veg can be cooked from frozen. I personally defrost peppers and mushrooms on kitchen towel so they are not so wet when you are cooking them. It's amazing some of the offers you can get. In most of the supermarkets or freezer shops ie Iceland and farm food.

Interesting about price of one potato, i saw recently some shops like asda or lidl doing 500g for 39p or less and that's the set price not reduced. Frozen veggies like butternut squash and broccoli/caulflower really helped and I'd make curries. Just wished i had freezer space because I'm dealing with a chest one and no fridge. So I'm pretty sure that for £10 you can get a lot more veggies. Also personally i find aldi/lidl a lot more cheaper than other shops especially morrisons. But i typically in the past used to go to two shops because of price differences or they didn't stock what i needed e.g butter beans.
@NicolaatTheFrugalCottage3 жыл бұрын
I probably could get more veggies in here if I thought a bit more about it; I wanted to get a variety of things so it didn't feel too restrictive. I find Morrisons to be on the same pricing level as Aldi/Lidl for most things :) plus it's the closest supermarket for us. I am going to do another one of these in a different supermarket though! @@NicolaatTheFrugalCottage I would say herbs, spices condiments etc are perfectly acceptable as majority of people have them already in the cupboard. About every 6 weeks I have a £20 week shop where I buy essentials like bread, milk, fruit & veg, cook meat, yogurts & cereal, then I use up what's been in the freezer & cupboards for a while, so they don't go out of date. If my veg looks a bit tried, I make soup, leftovers are eaten next day or go in the freezer & I try not to trow anything away. When I cook with my oven I always cook a couple things at the same time, e g Pasta bake & cake, biscuits or scones. Good stuff. I would suggest the following: - Don't buy cheapo 'curry sauce' which is mostly sugar and fat. Just buy curry powder in bulk in the 'world foods' section, there's a company called East End which makes good stuff. Buy a 'strong' rather than 'mild' curry powder as it will go further. Just mix in when cooking rice etc. - Don't bother with supermarket bread, it's mostly chemicals. Make Irish soda bread from flour, or have porridge oats. - Don't buy fresh milk. You can get a big tin of Nestle full fat powdered milk on Amazon for about £20. Costs less than fresh, doesn't taste much different and lasts much longer as it never goes off.

Just came across this 2 years old weekly challenge video and found it very interesting how you spread your budget. What concerned me was the amount of processed tinned foods you used. I can make a huge pot of nourishing delicious vegetable soup in my slow cooker for little cost and it goes a long way. I understand this was to feed only yourself, but for myself I would prefer a healthier food choice option. Well done on succeeding under your budget though. 🌺

Thank you for watching; tinned options were cheaper at this point. Though I understand that fresh would probably have been better :)

13.23 USD. Wow, I could never get all that in NYC for 13.23. You did great. Best video. You included lots of veggies and even SNACKs. The other videos people mainly left out snacks. I could live a week on you choices. I would rather have healthier bread, and I always get jam or can fruit with no sugar added. But wow, you did great....for the budget. And you did not spend whole 10 pounds? You could go back for more bananas, etc. Great job..

Thank you! In the follow up video I did show where I went back on Day 3 for some extra things that took me nearly to the £10 :)

This is a great video. I think a curry sauce is quite easy to make and a bigger tin of baked beans usually isn’t much more but cheaper per gram. Otherwise very good options and choices with fruit and veg included which isn’t always easy when on an extreme budget as annoyingly junk food is cheaper! Agree with the porridge oats option below and I even do my porridge with water and you just get used to it after a while. 1kg of porridge oats would last at least 20 breakfasts and is very filling. I’d also suggest using discounter stores to those on an extreme budget like Lidl and Aldi as I find these are often cheaper. Olio is also a great app for people to claim surplus food in their area that would otherwise go to landfill and has saved myself and my partner a fortune this month! Also the more people you are buying for the more variety you can get etc so if doing for a family I think it would be better. Biscuits wise I think rich tea and custard creams are both cheaper per gram etc lol but obviously depends on your preferences 😊

I’m going to do another week shopping at a different place as well, I think :) it’ll be interesting to see how it compares!

@@NicolaatTheFrugalCottage it’s great though. It’ll definitely help people who are struggling at the moment and don’t necessarily know how to reduce spending enough.

I wish I lived in your country so I could save so much lol. Everything is extremely expensive here! All those items would've costed more than a hundred bucks here!

It's alright saying feed a family for 10 pounds a week but you aren't, you are only feeding yourself, what are you're husband and children going to eat.
