Hah! Theyre cleaned so you don’t have to do it but everybody will just rinse it through hot water when they’re given the big bowl. Probably was necessary back in the day and now it’s just habit 🤷‍♀️ not a bad one though!

@@hongkongfoodtours I encountered this once and was completely put off. Wasn't a cheap restaurant either. How does it not imply the restaurant doesn't clean properly or you're just better. If you're better wouldn't you not be at a place that provides you a BOWL to clean your whatevers in the SAME water? This is the very opposite of "etiquette." Yuck.

@@chrislim7976 It’s normal practice here for people to want to wash off any dust off the dishes or to give it a final rinse themselves - as you’ve mentioned your similar experience in a more upscale restaurant. I think it would be important to note that whether you find this “yuck” or not really depends on where you’ve lived and experiences. Just like how some other cultures might require patrons to take off their shoes or eat with their hands - it really is the cultural norm and should be seen, understood, and respected as that =)
