I get goosebumps every time you say, "its getting dark out there" I am looking for the light of the world to return, but for now, as you rightly say, we should endeavor to shine for Him.

I've picked and eaten it for 20 years. Raised a daughter eating it. We call it "The 1-15 Plant", after washing have 2 spaghetti pots at a rolling boil. Take washed Poke put in the first boiling pot and hold down and stir to keep it submerged. Bring back to boil and after 1 minute of rolling boil pour the water through a sieve let it drain and rinse the hot poke in sink. Take the colander and dump carefully the poke into the 2nd boiling water for 15 minutes. And put through the strainer and rinse. Then cast iron skillet and bacon with grease and some onions.

I heard Daryl Pattinson talk about eating poke berries(cautiously) and decided to try one. Didn’t realize I wasn’t supposed to bite into it. OMGOODNESS!! It was the worst tasting thing I have ever put in my mouth!🤣 didn’t hurt me, but I’ll never do that again.😂 when I was growing up my mom would cook poke salat leaves(we always thought it was called ‘Polk salad’). We did enjoy them.

I've been eating poke berries sometimes two to four at a time. I don't bite into them just swallow them whole. So far still ok.

I’ve recently been swallowing the berries for my arthritis n it helps. I’m gonna make a tincture of them.

I am 68 and have ate poke all my life. We have never parboiled our poke. Same way with wild greens, like cow weed, dandelions, carpenter square, etc. It is the wild taste we love. We clean the leaves and cut them up and then freeze them. Just that, no parboil etc. We also take the round stalk it grows on and peel the red layer of peel on it. We fry that up after flooring, or not flooring. Right now I have them both in a skillet. I fry them about 5 to 10 minutes in some bacon grease them scramble a couple eggs and pour it right over that. Cook till eggs are done. This is one of my family's favorite breakfasts. I have never done anything with the berries but this next summer I would like to try the ink. It sounds interesting.

That is cool. Would it be ok to boil it, to make it darker and richer? I know red beet juice reduce in color when heated. I know another very simple source for ink, and that is chimney creosote. Not the dusty fluffy type, but the shiny crispy kind. You just grind it to a powder and add a bit of water. Alcohol may work too, not sure if there would be a chemical reaction.

This was a very good video. Note the further south a person lives the more toxic the plant can be depending on weather (heat means increased toxicity). I have added this video to my playlist interesting by others for people to discover. My dad used to take me through the mountains when I was barely old enough to retain the knowledge. We crossed washed out valleys and collected herbs and food I remember my dad being very excited when he told me all the things his mother could do with this wonderful plant. Another note: copper and other metals react to most things chemically so you should always use wood and hard stone.

I missed the first part of this in the premier so I had to come back and watch the whole thing. I think I did taste it but I didn't eat it, I spit it out and then washed my mouth out when I wondered if it was safe, I'm going to have to learn not to do that before I have to learn the hard way and get something that is q major problem for me. I cut mine down it was a lot larger this year than it was last year so I guess they get larger every year, I did save some seeds just in case I might want to grow some sometime, the only reason I grew that one is because it was something I had not seen here before so I thought God had gotten a bird to bring it to me and was curious if it was something really good but besides it being unique and attractive it's not worth much except to the birds, they seemed to like it, there were quite a few leaves where they had spit the seeds out on them. I have a brand new bandanna like the one you are wearing there that someone left me in a Rubbermaid tote between the houses with a new ball cap, I don't know if they had robbed someone or vandalized them or what but they ditched them in the tote, the cap still had the price tag on it, they appeared to both be new. Big hugs for you , Jesus loves you, I do to.

I was really looking forward to the climax when we could watch the written word being put on paper with this ink. Sort of took the point right out of watching to the end. 😒 We have tons of this poke growing around our gardens, the roots are incredibly large almost reminds me of a giant parsnip or genseng root.

I remember gathering Poke weed with my grandmother. It definitely has the consistency of spinach, but a different taste. I am so going to make this ink. ✝

EXACTLY - don't bite it - swallow whole. Air dry them causing them to shrivel & harden. They are tiny and you can keep them in a jar and take a few daily, or freeze fresh. The seed is the issue but it passes through your body if you swallow whole (this is how they spread so quickly - birds eat the berries and drop the seed after it passes through them). The root however, though medicinal, is nothing to mess around with, without diligent RESEARCH.

For ink it might work so long as the holes are very very small. For safe juice extraction (to use in drinks or jellies, etc., a steam juicer is the way to go. I love mine! amzn.to/49ZiJEb

We yank and cut it to keep the birds from eating berries. They then of course poop purple all over everything 😂 and. Make more plants.

Thank you for your beautiful spirt and Bible verses. Have you tried Ginsang tea! Dairyland Management sells it grown in Wisconsin. Best tea on the planet! They also sell seeds and roots. Difficult to grow. Requires 80% shade. I’m trying to grow it in Missouri. I think Tennessee is good for trying too.

I'm 76 and I do not boil it. I pick only the short early leaves under 4-5" long and steam them with AppleCiderVinagar, and simmer with oil. But don't eat it raw, tho. I see no need in eating anything you kill all the food value in by boiling and throwing away the vitamins. JMHO!

I think the ink is a fantastic idea and really the only usable idea for this plant. I know too much about wild edibles to even consider poke as a food source of any kind

It is prohibited in the U.S.A. to collect or possess feathers, unless you purchase farmed goose feathers, you are breaking the law. The Migratory Bird Treaty Act: One of the key reasons why collecting feathers is prohibited in the United States is the Migratory Bird Treaty Act. Enacted in 1918, this federal law aims to conserve and protect migratory bird species, their nests, eggs, and feathers. It covers over 800 bird species, including some of the most iconic ones like eagles, hawks, and owls. The act prohibits the possession, sale, purchase, or even transfer of feathers without proper permits.

Do not take a chance . Don't put poison in a container that looks like a container that normally holds food. People have a habit of not reading things or read things incorrectly. Not that you do, but just for the people watching, don't store non foods by foods.
