Pawpaws need to reach a certain ripeness on the tree in order for the fruit to ripen correctly off the tree. The fruit needs to begin to get soft up near the stem before removing it and placing in a sunny window sill to finish ripening. If picked rock hard you can expect the fruit to never get ripe. Also, pawpaws produce both male and female flowers on the same tree, in fact each individual flower goes through a female stage and then the male stage. There is no male pawpaws. They usually need another genetically different pawpaw in order to cross pollinate but many trees will produce fruit without another tree. The variety "Sunflower" for instance will produce some fruit without pollen from another tree.

@nkynative28505 жыл бұрын
Janet LaRue One thing is to never let the seeds dry out. They should be started in deep pots or directly planted in the ground where you want the tree. Seedlings are sensitive to direct sunlight in the first yr and be sure they get enough water. To add to B uppys comment the seeds need to undergo whats called stratification. To do that you just put the seeds in a ziplick bag with moist peat moss and set them in the fridge for atleast 100 days. Plant them in the spring and you should see some sprouts about July/August. They can take a while to germinate. The first 2 yrs they dont grow much but the 3rd yr they really take off.

2:54 is where I’m at now and I’m guessing (before watching the rest of the video) that the overripe one is the sweetest and mushiest. I like them a little further gone personally. Cultivated types from KSU, Neal Peterson varieties, or Jerry Lehman varieties are top notch. Cliff England at cliff England orchard and nursery comes to the farmers market near me and he has pawpaws for a little over a month and he has some of the most exquisite tasting fruit. Which is understandable seeing as he has one of the largest collection of pawpaw and persimmon cultivars in the United States.

@@tinahartley6692 Tina, no system works, or can work apart from man being moral. The problem with socialism and communism is that you put your power as individuals into the hands of a very few. Those few, if they weren't corrupt, which likely they are, for they are power grabbing, eventually the great to absolute power over the masses will corrupt them. Man is wicked, apart from a loving, accountable relationship with His Creator. No system can work without moral people, both in governmental capacities and as citizens, but between capitalism and communism, communism is much more dangerous. Millions and millions of people were killed in the last century under communism. Check out recent history. They come in with great, alluring promises, but death is in their wake. Communism cannot work. It is against human nature. Would you get up every day and do your best and work your hardest, if everything you worked for was going to be divided up with others, who had no motivation or incentive? Would people be inventive and come up with marvelous ideas for products, if they were never rewarded for them? If you give away your freedom than you deserve to become a slave.

Pawpaws are delicious! To clarify; Pawpaws don't have male and female trees. When they first flower, their flowers are male, then as they age they shift to female. Also pawpaws cannot self pollinate so once a tree's flowers go female it needs another tree nearby that still has male flowers on it in order to grow fruit.

Found the Paw Paw in 2022 in the Shawnee National forest. Went back the following year and the trees had no fruit. The plants are both male and female. They flower w a stinky red flower that attracts a unique fly and that's how they pollinate. The trees need two different plant strains to produce fruit. They produce suckers that won't bare fruit. This year 2024 found a good sized patch that was loaded with fruit in Mich. Now I have seeds from two different plants that I will plant and grow my patch.
