Good video, but you are wrong about when you should start. You should start worrying from The beginning. In pure line drawing you still use edges by making The line smoother ou even desapearing for a short time. You can check It out in most of Rubens drawings.
@sariyaart6 ай бұрын
I agree that you can use edges in whatever type of art you do, but I still think that learning forms, shapes and values will improve your drawings/paintings so much more than edges, which is why I said what I said in the video. Maybe I'm wrong, it's just what I think. Thank you for the comment though. Also who do you mean by Ruben? Is it Peter Paul Ruben or do you mean someone else?
@041able6 ай бұрын
@@sariyaart Yes, when people say Rubens, they usually meant Peter Paul Rubens, haha. Well, that you have to use edges since day 1. What we call edges are the passages between surfaces, so you have to start using it if you want to depict a surface properly. If you want to draw a sphere properly, you have to use smooth edges when the passages are imperceptible and hard when they are abrupt, like the passage from the sphere to background(when there is a big gap between values, of course) for example. And as you can use just lines to represent surfaces, modulating lanes is essential too. Thats why in actual academic learning, you practice by copying old masters and drawing still life, because you learn how to use the elements of drawing from the masters and apply to real things. Learning shapes, values and edges in separate just doesn't make sense to me.
@sariyaart6 ай бұрын
That makes sense. I guess my problem was viewing these as seperate subjects to study, but you're completely right in saying that they all have to be used effectively and work together to create an appealing painting. It's unfortunate that I can't change the content of the video now, but I'll keep it mind for the future. For now I'm doing to pin this for people to read (I doubt most will read it, but it's the best I can do)

I think you're misunderstanding something. When it comes to learning art, whatever field you're going in, you're going to have to take it one step at a time. The fact that good edge control level up your images / paintings / drawings a lot, doesn't mean you have to worry about them from day 1. All the components and principles that make up your image, cannot be learned all at the same time. So what should we do? We should divide them, and prioritise the most important ones. And as Sariyaart mentioned, forms, shapes and values are definitely way more important than edge control. Keep in mind that to learn effectively, you should focus at improving one thing at a time. Wanting to do everything well from the get-go, always results in chaos, scattering of focus, and doing everything half-assed. To re-iterate, edge control is definitely a more intermediate concept and should be worried about after you've gained a good grasp of other more fundamental skills like form, shape, and value. Sariyaart, make sure to take the comments under your video with a grain of salt, especially from those that are not (professional) artists themselves. Your video was great :)

The fact that we need to indicate that something is (artistic) says alot
@Crouchton6 ай бұрын
Og it's not exactly used as an art term and never rlly was they're turning it into one by adding "artistically" and relating it to a term actually used in art along other things, edges. The creator probably used it to draw in audiences due to the unfamiliar use of the term and the intrigue it caused (also the reason I'm here idk who they are). The *need* to indicate it's artistic is as you said, a need since otherwise it'd have a whole different meaning provides that the context changes.

Hi, can I make a request? Can you please make videos on the following? 1) Perspective and proportion practice (like how to study proportions and perceptive and also how to practice them) 2) How to draw human anatomy in details (not photorealistic but enough to not look like stick figures). 3) How to draw in Manga style (like how Mangas are made).
@Atmos_Glitch6 ай бұрын
If you want those tips now I recommend you watch _"Excals Art Tips",_ he's got alot and I me *Alot* of anatomy and perspective tips based on each part of the body in short and concise videos explaining how and why the parts of the body should be drawn that way depending on the pose. He draws all this in an anime artstyle and has more than just perspective and anatomy tips too.

I'd love to help with those but that's honestly I'm terrible at so I don't think im qualified to talk about them. However that is all the more reason to study it and make content about what I learn, but it will be harder to make than the ususal. Also I really enjoy manga and there are many artists I plan on doing studies of (like Takehiko Inoue for example), but if you're interested you can watch my brothers channel! He makes manga and manga content, it's called Gakusei Muto. Go sub to him and watch his content!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
