In this architectural photo editing tutorial I'll share my complete Lightroom through Photoshop workflow. We'll learn how to blend exposures seamlessly with the luminosity masking panel ( get it here: bit.ly/3dpGeub ) before making final overall enhancements
using Color Efex Pro (get it here: bit.ly/nik-col.... It has a detail enhancer, local and global contrast enhancer all of which can be applied as part of a preset to quickly level up your architectural photography.
This tutorial shows a complete workflow / walkthrough edit from a property photographed during the evening. While I'll share some insights about getting the most from editing this type of architecture (or real estate) photo, the editing techniques I share will be useful for most architecture photos.
We'll look at:
Basic processing in Lightroom
Creating higher quality images with exposure blending
Retouching distractions and cleaning the image (cloning etc.)
Image and architecture enhancements with ColorEfex Pro
I've tried to cover everything in detail for you, but any questions please fire away in the comments. I'm happy to help. Other video requests are welcome too!

It's been a while since your last video, nice to see you back. I'd like to request a video about 'flambient' photography, specifically when and why to use a flash, and some examples would be greatly appreciated

Thanks for making a video that further expands on what I just expressed my struggles with! I also appreciate you more or less making the same editing video repeatedly, but with new methods and on-the-spot wisdom each time.

Flambient would be really interesting. Especially when in post production flambient pictures combined with natural light pictures and blend seamlessly! Thanks for great tutorials!

I've just shot a couple of projects in both styles so hopefully I'll get time to put some vids together on it soon.

Anthony, thank you for all your knowledge! I continue to learn with every video. I have recently subscribed, through your link, to Luminar Neo!! Thank you! I would be very interested in more guided in depth exposure blending, and the flambient method!

These videos are sooo cool. But editing is one good point. Do you plan doing a video about taking the pictures?

Great tutorial as usual! :-) The end result is lovely. I would like to see how you do blending with 5 or more exposures. When you need to cover a wider dynamic range than in this photo would you still take 3 exposures but 2 stops apart or stay with the 1-stop increment and increase the number of frames?

Flambient is amazing. I get great feedback. One question, where can i get that flat camera profile for lightroom?

Flambient ! How do we know when to use flambient or HDR 🙏
@archiphoto

TBH it's going to come with experience. I prefer an exposure blending method with the true light of the scene rather than flambient for most cases. But when colours are being too affected by reflected casts then a flash is a good option.

How do you deal with alignment issues? I know you can't auto align smart objects in photoshop. If you're shooting on soft carpet, grass, dirt... there will be micro shifts where the merged image will look soft. Thanks for your content!
@archiphoto
@archiphoto 7 ай бұрын
An alternative is to use merge to hdr in LR to sort out the alignment. The HDR file then contains the full dynamic range of the seperate layers, you can then edit duplicates of the raw layers in PS so you still benefit from the control of precise luminosity masking. I've covered this in another vid I just can't recall which one off the top of my head.

In one of your previous videos you edited a photo in lightroom creating hdr image from bracketed shots and now you present a slightly different method. According to your experience, which one of the two methods you prefer and which one gives better end results?

Great question! For the best results this is my go to method (most of the time). Some lighting situations may be better suited to some of ghe other methods I've previously shared.

I see some of your shots are taken at ISO 64. Do you really see a difference to ISO 100?
@archiphoto

A little improvement in the shadows when they get boosted up. The D850's native lowest setting is ISO64 so it makes sense to go with that wherever I can.

I wish I could afford this time and detail for residential photos. But, 45 minutes per photo, times 30+ photos for less than $250. no chance.

It's never going to be 45 minutes per photo. This is learning video, he goes and does some things, stops to explain, explain as he's doing, goes back and forth, adds some extra actions and moves just to make a point so we could learn. For sure it would take you much longer before you get into routine, because you'd have to come back to the video several times, or write your own process flow on a sheet of paper perhaps. But once you've got it, it doesn't take more than just 5 minutes per image, depends how deep you want to go. I do real estate and this is going to be the way I want to deliver quality to my clients. The money will come as a consequence, never chase the money, because without value given there's no result in this business.

You’re talking about real estate photos - your client will make be done with the building in a few months. This is architectural photography, his client will take years to complete a single project.
