Great Video on how to use the dashboard editor to adjust code. Only thing to remember, and you did a good job of mentioning this a few times is to make sure to copy the code and save it to your clip board or even a text editor. Just a quick tip in case anyone accidentally messes up the PHP Code and encounters the dreaded white screen of death. If this were to happen to you then if you followed the advice of copying the code before making changes then you can recover quickly by logging into your web host control panel, head over to file manager then make your way to your active theme folder, locate the footer.php file, click the edit code link and you can take the code that you copied and paste it there, save it and your site will recover. Just refresh your website in the browser. Another way to resolve this is by using FTP/SFTP and having actual backups of your files on your local computer. Then you can just upload the backed up file right to your server. Again, great job on demonstrating how to customize the footer credits. I look forward to seeing more of your videos.

You might also want to touch base on activated themes that use checks in other php files to look for information removed from the footer and when it does, it puts up a warning at the bottom of the website. An example would be the Minefun theme.

My theme uses a function instead of explicitly writing the info in footer.php. So I had to edit it within the "template-tags.php" file found in the "includes" folder. Same principal though. Thanks!

Thanks for the post. I did not find the footer theme in the theme editor. I went to Appearance > Customize > Widgets where I found Footer Sidebar 1 Here I could edit the information on the footer and add information with the add widgets on the bottom.

In the tesseract update there is no Footer.php. only a footer-custes.php and there is also no 'theme by..' or link to a website in it. Any idea where I can find it now?

The other videos i was talking about, was that one with the plugin to also change the footer. Yeah, but know i´m ok, you helped me a lot with this one. You know, what video you could do? One that explains how to have multiple databases in the local host. I know how to do it, but i had to work hard to find my way on it. Probably there´s a lot of people with the same difficulty. Hi, I followed your steps below for tesserct 2, found the functions.php and the script. I copied the file and had it on my clipboard before doing anything, altered the footer, and then I got the dreaded parse error at line 609. I then went back and pasted the original file back in and saved it and still the same error message. I even confirmed that indeed the original file was there and still got the same error. Only way I could fix it was to go into file manager and delete the theme, so I reinstalled and back to square one.

Hi there Adam. Love your videos. I’m a WP beginner and been enjoying your insights and advices. Thank you so much! Wonder if you can share any help regarding the removal of the copyright text. I’m using a twenty-seventeen child theme and it seems the line to remove it would be the word “info” in the footer section of the editor. It works! Problem is I’m also using Elementor (and Elementor Page Templater). Once I delete the “info” my Elementor edits also disappear. Now, it seems WP has a new way to input the copyrights, since the text is not visible anymore in the editor, as happens in the examples from this tutorial. I’m guessing it is calling some function that affects both the copyright text and also the Elementor elements. I also installed Adanced twenty-seventeen plugin, which has the option to remove the copyrights. Altough I change the text, nothing changes on the page. I also don’t think it’s a cache thing so I’m wondering if you have any advice on this…

Kamau Kenyatta, go to: Appearance -> Customise -> Footer -> Bottom Bar -> and there is a box at the bottom called 'Edit Footer Credits' where you can enter additional footer info :)

Yes, Divi finally added it as an option in the customizer, which they should have done a VERY long time ago.
