Thank you, that was excellent! I've been editing on FCPX for a while but I watched this just to see if there were any gems in there. Here's one, using command while changing the audio - that's gonna save me some future pain! It was always a pain point to bring the volume up and down just a hair and doing it with the command button makes it so much easier! There were a few other gems like that, mostly shortcuts that I'm gonna use from now on.

Hey Dylan, thank you for posting this video (and the previous ones). I'm just starting now to look into videography as hobbyist and I found them very useful. Also, I'm moving from PC to Mac, i.e. from PowerDirector to Final Cut, so I'm glad I've found your channel. I'm wondering if you are planning to eventually post an extended general introduction to videography for beginners like me. Thank you and keep up the good work!
@TheFinalCutBro
@TheFinalCutBro 3 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! I have so much more planned. Also of late I am really trying to take the approach of teaching everything as if a complete beginner is watching and has no idea what I am doing. So with that being said I am trying to show each step, even if its redundant with previous videos. That being said, I am planning on breaking down each different part of Final Cut in a way that hopefully newcomers can totally understand and start taking their videos to the next level. So stay tuned for that! Appreciate you watching so much!

Really good video Dylan!! It's so well explained that makes it clear and not boring at all. I've been editing in Avid Pro for the past 2 years but I've been trying to migrate to a simpler platform for a while now. Although I already know some stuff, it is not easy to migrate from one platform to another, to understand where are the controls for everything and also to get a nice workflow. My biggest challenge is always about organization and how to place all the files on my external hard drive, so if you have a video about organization, even a small one, I would definitely watch. Anyway, just keep the good work, again, very well explained and very complete I would say!

Yes! If you just go up to File > Relink Files > original media you should be able to relink. Final Cut Pro is pretty good at finding the files, so if you just select whichever hard drive you know for sure the footage is on, it’ll find it fast and you shouldn’t have to dig around too much. wow thank you so much for this video! very informational!! I have a question tho. do you know what the difference is between final cut pro and Final Cut Pro x ??
@TheFinalCutBro
@TheFinalCutBro 3 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! Short answer to your question : They’re the same! Long answer : About 10 years ago Apple jumped from Final Cut Pro 7 to Final Cut Pro X. Basically the same way they did with their phones jumping from 8 to X. However with one of the most recent updates, Apple decided to finally pull off the X on version 10.5 - so now Final Cut Pro X is just officially Final Cut Pro. Hope that makes sense!

@@TheFinalCutBro So what your saying is if I don’t go pass 10.5 and stay in Mojave I can still have Final Cut X because Final Cut Pro only works in Catalina. May I ask is Multi cam editing available and final cut pro X? Because I think in one version they took Multi cam editing out.
@TheFinalCutBro
@TheFinalCutBro 3 жыл бұрын
@@gatlinproduction Multicam editing is still most definitely there! I just used it this very morning on the latest version. As far as versions go, you could stay in Mojave and maintain 10.5 if you want. But 10.5 is actually the version that changed Final Cut Pro X to just Final Cut Pro. So if you're worried about maintaining the Final Cut Pro X version, it may be too late for that! The only feature I have seen them remove is the ability to publish directly to KZbin. I never used this feature as I preferred having complete control over the quality of video going to KZbin. But everything else is still there!
@GR_12
@GR_12 2 жыл бұрын
Bro!! You exported the file directly , do we not have to render it first or do we not do that in final cut ? What is rendering?
@TheFinalCutBro
@TheFinalCutBro 2 жыл бұрын
No need to render in Final Cut! Though if you do render, the export will go much faster. I’ll do my best to explain rendering, but it’s likely better to Google someone who knows all the correct terminology. Rendering is essentially creating a baked video file that has all of the effects/plugins applied to your clip. Your computer then accesses that file upon playback so that everything plays totally smooth. However, once you change anything in the rendered area, the video has to be re-baked to achieve smooth playback again. Hope that makes sense! Thanks for watching!

I came from imoive and have always import video and photos to the photos app . Then I create folder in photos with the title of my project. Is there an issue doing it that way in final cut pro?
@TheFinalCutBro
@TheFinalCutBro 3 жыл бұрын
That seems like a great method to me! The only problems I could potentially see is if you were ever to move the edit over to someone else's computer down the line. They wouldn't have access to your photos. But I think you may be able to get around that by selecting your library, going to the inspector panel and pressing the "Consolidate Media" button. That should (theoretically) make everything travel relatively easy. I haven't worked much through the photos folder, so I don't know if there are any benefits of working solely out of the browser. It might be worth trying both and see if you have any advantages working in one area over another. But as far as I can tell, both should work equally well. Thanks for watching!

@@TheFinalCutBro built my first video in final cut yesterday and can’t seem find find the videos on the photos app. I had to transfer them to my desktop and any footage I shot with my dji gimbal wouldn’t transfer. Have you heard of issues with dji videos being compatible with final cut?

@@MWDAdventures that’s awesome! I have worked pretty extensively with DJI videos (typically drones though) in Final Cut Pro. Typically the only trouble I have is that because the files are heavily compressed, It runs pretty slow. And ever since Catalina, occasionally it will go completely black, and the only way to fix it is to quit FCP and come back. If you’re having a hard time working with the files, you may want to look up DJI drivers, and there may be something that helps final cut work better with the files! Hopefully that helps a little.

Amazing tutorial, can you also suggest any shorcut for deleting the clip, I can't find one.

Thanks so much! So the only shortcuts I am aware of for deleting clips is simply pressing the delete button on your keyboard. If you have the ability to press backspace you can also do that to delete but leave a gap! Or if you don't have backspace you can press the function key in the bottom left side of your keyboard and delete at the same time and it will perform the same action. Hope that helps!

Thats awesome! Keep working hard and you’re going to go far! But one suggestion, I wouldn’t recommend sharing your age on the internet with strangers. That’s info best kept to yourself with how strange people on the internet can be. So glad I was able to help you get started editing videos though! Keep going!

Background music is unnecessary and too loud. It makes it hard to hear your voice. Otherwise, great video.
