So many great tips!! I need to learn more about lightroom because so many of these things I do in Photoshop because I am more comfortable. Learning more of lightroom is on my "to do" list! :)

Great tips. To add to that, when you're cropping, you can use the level tool (within the cropping tool) to use a horizon or, in your case, the level water line, to make it perfectly level. Also, while using the spot removal tool, if it selects a weird area, you can right click on the selected area and chose "select new source".

Great tricks!! I loved the one for the iris, I didn't know you could do that. Thanks to you my photography has improved a lot not only editing but also on location using proper exposure, posing and camera settings. I think by far you are one of the best guides I've had to improve. Keep it up!

😍 I've been skipping the 'detail tab' It's great to know i can open it up and get my images looking sharp now. I just need to remmeber to press ALT when on the masking slider. 😂 The HSL luminance slider for skin tones seems so much quicker than using a brush. I will be using that for my portraits. Thanks Julie, you're great! 😊 Do you ever use the calibration tool to get skin tones looking golden?

Julia, i know your deviantart account since i was in highschool. I consider you to be my favourite portrait editor and one of the best portrait photographers. One question: i see you like more the lightroom, and you use photoshop for the tone skin and retouch. What is the difference between lightroom and photoshop from your point of view? Because i cand find all the settings in both programs. Or maybe slmost all. Can you make a video about that? :D

Great tips Julia! I especially like the HSL tip for skin brightening. I’m looking forward to trying this in lieu of using the adjustment brush to dial in face exposure. HSL looks not only quicker, but a superior result as well. Thank you for helping to keep my creative fire lit! =)

Hi Julia! I have a question on white balance. Do you adjust your white balance or do you just shoot in auto? I have been having trouble editing my photos in post trying to fix the white balance. Also do you think it’s better to underexposed or expose on the meter at 0?
@juliatrotti5 жыл бұрын
I always adjust my white balance, I have it set on K while I'm shooting so all my images look the same (it makes post processing lots of photos from a wedding for example easier and faster) and then I just make little adjustments in post of I need to! As for exposing it depends what kind of look you're going for. For personal photos (travel, fun photoshoots, etc) I like to underexpose slightly, for more commercial work I go for 0 or over slightly. Hope that helps!

Im still getting used to Lightroom and I can't make the brushes work. I have no idea why it does not change a tiny bit. also the spot removal tool does feel so good when you want to do more than twice because it just keeps showing all the ones you've used and I ran out of space to sample from. Can anyone help ?
@juliatrotti5 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure about the brush size - you can try to use the sliders to change it. As for the sampling, it is a little annoying to always see the circle of what you've already edited. But if you're running out of space, you can sample all from the same spot if you want to!

Hey Julia, quick question (and if you've addressed this in another video I'd love a link). Sometimes I take 300-400 images on a shoot. After I've got them down to what I feel are the best 150 for example, that is still a hell of a lot of images to do skin retouches, painting the back vs the subject. Basically all the really intricate editing, if I do it to that many images it takes me like a week. How do you deal with this problem? Thank you. :)
@juliatrotti5 жыл бұрын
You can watch a speed edit of my complete workflow here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ppjGf3aVorKBjs0 basically, I will only do intricate editing to my final 10 or so images from a photoshoot. If I at first select 100 images from 600 photos and I want to see what they would look like edited, I would apply a quick lightroom preset without adjusting it to much, to help me with finding my final 10 images to my proper editing to. I hope that helps!
