One tip for you making this tutorial. If u wanna achieve the same effect in that circle closing and splitting u can use CC Lens effect on a adjustment layer or just make a circle shape and turn into an adjustment layer and parent it to the scene and increasing the amount in cc lens u will get the same ball effect to get the same reflection like houston kold or also u can use adjustment layer then precomp freeze frame and split the precomp with a mask

you are using an older version of after effects. try to update it or use the set matte effect.
