Although we have not had even one night below 40, we already passed our average first Fall frost date. I love the concept of that app. It looks really good.

I planted Early Wonder Beets today and German Giant Radishes yesterday. I have a lot of the little round variety of carrots started and my arugula, turnips, rutabaga, collards and others are about an inch tall. In Louisiana last winter my Florida Broadleaf Mustard would freeze solid and be white with frost but lush and green in the sun the next day. It seems so strange. Some of the huge individual leaves were over 3 feet long and I was growing the best plants for seeds. My turnips and radishes survived well too. I tested some mustard plants by making no effort to protect them when it got down to below 10 degrees. They were damaged but recovered.

I did a little bit of chaos gardening in my fall growing beds. I just mixed all my fall/winter seeds together and dumped them in. I'm going to let nature sort it out. On my other beds that I have just made I have a cover crop growing to improve the soil for next spring. The area was scraped of top soil when our house was built in 2019. We have been on the property since 2022 and I have learned that I need to fix the soil before I try and grow anything else.

Looking forward with your late fall garden with electrico culture apparently it helps with the frost. With the current electricity it helps to combat Frost

I'm not going to try a fall garden this yr., only because I have my late planted tomatoes that's just now flowering (my tomatillo just now went crazy on flowering after almost growing out of the tomato cage) 1 plant has finally blessed me with a few green tomatoes (assuming the chicken's don't get them b4 the ripen) & have potatoes that I'm hoping will grow/survive over winter. I need to get some compost to fill the box & then get plastic to put over it soon with straw put on it first. That's much fall garden this yr. Lol

my soil is trash. i had a soil teat and weirdly it is almost no nitrogen but high phosphorus and calcium. What goes best? Canada thistle. I thought that meant the calcium was low? What in the world?

Get chickens and quail. Instant nitrogen.

It will be fun to see how this comes out. This week contained our average first fall frost date. So far, no frost but it obviously is coming soon, so we have missed the chance for a fall garden. Go for it! I will be watching.
