So is the heat and bond only necessary when using the blanket stitch?

I use heat bond for almost all appliqué. Keeps the fabric from moving.

What stabilizers did you use, hooped and floated

In this sample Janay hooped knit fabric with cutaway stabilizer. Your stabilizer choice will depend on the material/object you are embroidering :)
