I LOVE the generosity of spirit of Japanese evidenced by the staff member giving you the tickets! One time I returned to Japan after a long sea deployment and I had to get back to Misawa wayyyy up north. I had never done this before, but I was expected to do it by myself, so I was bumbling my way through the process. Everybody from my unit who did the same thing as I took the train from Ueno. So, off to Ueno which was an adventure in itself. As I stood on the main concourse, most assuredly looking totally confused and desperate, a Japanese man in his 30s I would say came up and asked in broken English if I needed help. I was able to get through to him that I needed to get to Misawa on the night train and I had no idea how to do it. This gentleman told me that the ticket to Misawa would cost a certain amount of yen and for me to give it to him. I REALLY hesitated to do that, but something told me that I could trust him so I took a chance. He told me not to move from my spot. As he rushed off, I had a sinking feeling in my gut that I would never see him again and I was wondering what I was going to do. But...perhaps ten minutes later, this TRUE gentleman appeared on the horizon of the concourse with ticket (and change) in hand. He picked up my bag, walked me to the train platform, onto the train, and to my seat. Just writing this down now all these years later, I'm still blown away by his generosity. I truly wonder if it would happen anywhere else.

Sharla in Japan I know right? Kyoto's cool and all but it's so full of people and everyone has very similar experiences. Otsu is actually older than Kyoto, was the capital of Japan before Kyoto, and just overall has much more charm to it than Kyoto imo. I'm (frustrated no one told me you were coming) but very happy to see people finally beginning to discover what a great city this is. There is much more to Otsu that you have yet to experience, so please come again when you have the chance!

The attention to every bit of detail and aspects to food and everything else is amazing. I’m part Japanese and I’ve only started taking interest in the language and culture as of late. Thanks for you’re videos, they’re sensational and somewhat comforting, it has a really nice feel with the way you explain everything also. When I was living in Kyoto we would hike up the other side of Hieizan and it took us like 7 hours to get up to Enryaku-ji but it was one of the most magical experiences I ever had. The weather was great and Enryaku-ji's not as crowded as other temple which was nice. We even passed an abandonned ski slope that was creepy as hell and there's a cable car in the Kyoto side as well. I want to go back someday~
