That's funny that you brought up the comment about your age. I kind of felt the same way when I first started watching you and James. But I watched and have learned a lot. Thank you for what you do. I'm 10 years out from my retirement.

I retired last year and I remember the first trip I planned post-retirement. I found an air fare I liked and my first thought was-do I need to review with my co-workers? Get leave approved? Nope. I don’t need to do any of that. I think it’s the greatest thing about being retired.

You are the ONLY financial guy on KZbin I've heard say, "4% of $1M is $40K. Is that $40K after taxes? Or, is it really $50K or $55K?" THIS is what I always ask myself when they are talking about the 4% rule math. Thanks!

I have recently found you and James. Thanks to both of you for what you share. Exploring retirement before 60. The concept of filling tax buckets with Roth conversions to reduce tax impact of RMDs has been eye opening. I also appreciate your prior video on impact on SS if you stop working before 35 years of solid earnings based on the inflection points.

I plan on retiring in about 14 months, sequence of return risk feels very present to me now since it seems like we are getting to the end of this bull run and long bear market is ahead of with challenges over national debt, social security, and interest rates.
@johngill285310 ай бұрын
You should plan for a bad sequence of return. You always plan for it and hope it doesn't happen

I've retired 'early'... (late 50s) after year of planning along the lines of 'F.I.R.E.' . I appreciate your videos and am pretty happy with a lot of prep work over the past years (i.e., setting up Roth IRA, Reg IRAs, brokerage account, etc.). Your videos typically make me think/re-think of some of the many variables contributing to my success such as today's reminder about withdrawal strategy. Thanks for all the thought provoking thoughts.

Finding out that you have forgotten which day of the week it is is always amusing. (Downside is that you have been caught out by the disbenefits of trying to do something during the weekend "hoards".)

I liked the video a lot, I almost passed it up because you looked so young. I'll be 65 September 2025 and I'm thinking to at least semi retire then . Self employed carpenter here, it's harder to do the work now.

Does paying taxes out of a traditional IRA make a significant difference on the longevity of a portfolio? It seems to be convenient at a relatively small cost.
@johngill285310 ай бұрын
Details matter but most people will pay less taxes in retirement making traditional the better choice That being said look at Roth conversions and see if that makes sense

4% plus inflation is what historically you can safely withdrawal in worse case scenario It includes everything. Like taxes,fees, vacations and food.

Ari, I'm a newer listener, I'm worried I am investing too large of a ratio to my tax advantaged accounts vs my brokerage. I'm planning to be able to retire very early (~40). I tried looking through your videos for guidance, but am not finding anything I'm looking for. I'm afraid I'll be 'Retirement Rich' but 'liquidity poor' due to the restrictions on 401ks and IRAs. Do you have a resource you can link me?
@pengmagno739510 ай бұрын
If it’s such a huge concern, why not stop contributing to your 401k or just up to the match then build up the taxable brokerage account.
@wildfoodietours10 ай бұрын
For early retirement you can always use the 72t rule to withdraw from your 401k or traditional ira penalty free.
@johngill285310 ай бұрын
Don't worry Figure out what makes sense. All this information is easy to figure out or easy to pay someone to figure it out for you
@TylerFischer1110 ай бұрын
@@wildfoodietours Yeah, doing a SEPP always worries me as I feel like it's the point of no return. Much harder to re-enter the work force if our retirement plans fail. But, as we get closer, the picture should get more clear.

Not to be mean, but Jeff's comment makes no sense. It's like thinking that a mechanic can't fix a car, if that person doesn't own a care themselves. That's a non-sequitur, to put it kindly.
