Questions : should you warm the products in separate baths so it pours easier? Do you not do a first thin layer pour? What is the time wait between the first pour and the second pour? Can you pour the 1st pour and a week later do the second pour ( only because I ordered more product. I have a 19 square foot bar top I'm doing . I ordered 1/2 gal of resin and 1/2 gal of gardener. Found out I'll need twice that so I ordered it again. Is that right? Also should I do one big pour like you co or because I haven't done it before do smaller batches? What causes overheating of the product? Can you mix too much? What's the workable time ? You make it look easy, but is it?
@CountertopEpoxy
@CountertopEpoxy 6 жыл бұрын
Answers: No you don't need to warm the product up to pour. We do recommend doing a thin layer/skim coat first if going over a porous surface, to seal it. (ex: wood, concrete) You'll want to wait until the first layer has cured to a useable hardness before going in with another, 12-24 hours. You can pour a week later, but you'll want to then sand the surface a bit to get proper adhesion with the second pour. For 19 sq ft surface we recommend 1 gallon of our product, (1 gal - 20 sq ft coverage) if doing 2 coats/pours, you'll need 2 gallons. We do recommend doing one big pour, the entirety of the surface at once so you have a nice flush surface. Overheating of the product happens when you have too much concentrated product in one area. Our Premium Countertop Epoxy can only be poured 1/8 inch at a time. Overheating can also occur if left in the mixing bucket before application for a long period of time. We recommend mixing 2 - 4 (max) gallons at one time. Mixing larger quantities can cause overheating. The workable time is 40-45 minutes if working in appropriate work space temperature. (70-75 degrees) The process is simple yes! We do recommend definitely doing a couple sample pieces if you have never worked with epoxy before, so you can gain a better understanding and know how to work the product before a large pour. :) You can always call into our office 970.639.9338 or send an email to info@countertopepoxy.com if you have any questions at all, even during the process, or if want to speak directly with someone, we are more then happy to help answer them for you. Thank you!

Thank you so much I’m about to try the surface tension edge thing because I constantly have to heat and scrape those little bubbles off the bottom edges and it sometimes cracks the epoxy that’s on the sides with it. Absolutely beautiful work. I work with epoxy resin for art so I know a little about what your doing. I’m fairly new to the method and have never done a large piece. We have counter tops to replace and I would love to try method. My question is do you get pits or dust with your product ? How durable is it for normal wear and tear vs granite ect. The resin I’ve used is Art resin and crystal clear. Is the product you sell more durable than these for scratches. Where are you located and how much are your classes

I've watched a lot of these in prep for finishing a table of my own and yours was by far the best. I loved your explanations, even spreading the material and letting it do the work (which ive seen so many people do, but no one has said why). One question though, what do you do about the drips coming off the table afterwards? Or is there another video that addresses this? THANK YOU :)
@CountertopEpoxy
@CountertopEpoxy 6 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! We really appreciate those kind words. For the drips, we recommend about 2 hours into the product setting up, you can come back with a putty knife and scrap the drips off the edge. After cure, you can go back and sand the drips down. Levi touches on the subject of drips for a split moment in this video here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iHLPeJl4op6kZs0&lc=Ugxh8eJ5RA6zQ1l7wXN4AaABAg Let us know how else we can help!

Hi Daniel! You just want to go over the surface for a couple of seconds for each area your doing it so you don't burn the epoxy. You'll want the flame touching the epoxy. If you're going over white we recommend just using 91%isopropyl alcohol!

nycqt 15 The best way would be to temporarily remove your sink. You might be able to just lift your sink a little without undoing the plumbing. It just depends on how your sink is attached to your counters. Or just mask around the sink.

Give our office a call for the best approach for this 970-639-9338. A nice sanding may work but that depends on if it’s real wood? Or if they are super deep. You could get creative with our wall epoxy which is thicker and you could color it to match maybe accent colors or colors in the table and fill those areas in and sand smooth prior to the countertop clear coat.

How much colorant do you use in the alcohol? Do you put any alcohol in the colors you're using before a dirty pour? If so, how much? If you mix it again in the 2nd container for another 4 minutes doesn't it heat up too much and make it difficult to work with?
@CountertopEpoxy
@CountertopEpoxy 6 жыл бұрын
1 package of our metallic powder (25 grams) to one quart of alcohol. Yes you can put some alcohol in the colors you're using before a dirty pour, specially if you're wanting to achieve cells. We usually add just a splash or two. During the mixing process, you'll want to switch containers. when following the mixing instructions you will not experience heating up of the product unless left in the container for a long period of time with an abundance of product.

I poured a clear coat over a set of natural stained corn hole boards i made. The epoxy cured hard and clear as expected but once they were taken outdoors the epoxy began to soften and pull away from the wood. Any ideas? Are some resins better for outdoor use than others? I live in Texas and the summer heat can be a bit brutal. I made a second set and added blue metallic pigment powder to that resin. Same resin as the clear but have not had the same problem with that set of boards.

Perhaps you have done this already and I just need to take some initiative to search through your videos, but since I'm here... I would love to see your take on doing multi-level or multi-pour pieces... for example, a base coat, then another coat with some clear and accent colors to give it a 3D effect etc. None the less, great work!

Great suggestion! We can definitely take that into consideration for a video. :)

For countertops and such- is it naturally going to level perfectly or is it going to have raises and ridges? If so what do you do to flatten the uneven parts

CountertopEpoxy have a question. Where do you purchase the epoxy?

I like the detailed explanations that you give. For example, nobody else has explained that slowing down or stopping will make the epoxy thinner. An excellent job on that piece, too!!

Great video - love the colors on the dirty pour - just 2 cent advice - show more of the finished product at either the end or beginning of the video. Such cool colors and hard work deserves recognition!

I can't wait to try this on my ugly 80s Formica kitchen countertops. I have a question: my countertops have a lip at the edge that is there to prevent liquid from just spilling right off the the counter tops. How do you work with that lip using this product? Do you just somehow shave it down or file it down? Thanks for any feedback!

I would take a couple of photos that show the depth, profile of the edge. Send to Countertop Epoxy, follow up with phone call. They have seen it all, and are very helpful. My opinion, without seeing, that the epoxy will flow and even out with the edge. Just don't leave a pool there when you are doing final roller pass.

John Finity Thanks for the feedback. Sounds like it will be workable.

Did you ever figure out best way to get it over that lip evenly?

Anchors1411 I haven't tried yet. I ordered the epoxy but am going to use it on my flat bathroom vanity first.

punkypineASMR you will have to float epoxy mixed with drywall aggregate to bring it up to the level of the lip. You can use a trowel to spread the mixture to create a level surface. If you dont do this the epoxy will pool up leaving a high spot where the lip is. Once you have a level surface to work with, then you can use your prime coat and spray on metallics and finally a 2nd clear coat.

love the video. looks amazing. the edge technique is a great tip as well as the dirty pour. would loved to see what you did after that and if you used a top clear coat to finish it. also would have loved to see more of the finished product. keep up the good work.

Great work - good tip about the surface tension. No epoxy video ever tells you how to deal with the overflow "drips" at the edges. Do you watch them form and wipe them with a roller as they accumulate or do you mask-off the underneath of the work at the edges before you pour??? Thanks!
