SE v7 is a great dynamic super cardioid mic for live. I also have a mix bus sent to the house ( parallel bus )to make more clarity on some lead vocals and a different eq on that bus to remove some bad frequencies and some gate like 1:1 ratio to help clean some incoming frequencies with a fast release and some hold. …. Great video 🔥🔥

Hey Chad, I've been following you and learning now for a minute. Simply awesome. How can I share with you what I've learned. I just released a tune @ Distrokid in my stage name and it is being received well. I got too excited and had to launch now. I simply know I have a hit on my hands. I know you hear that alot but I DO. Really I do. Don't believe me? Just let me know where to link it and thanks again for your coaching!.

Thanks for this vid! Our church is getting an x32 soon. Question after eqing a mic, do you have that person grab the same mic every week? Or copy the settings to Wich ever mic they grab?
@AWTechTuesday
@AWTechTuesday 5 жыл бұрын
Hey Jeremy! Great question. I will typically set mics for positions rather than specific people but sometimes that ends up being the same thing. For example, I will designate 1-2 mics for the worship leader(s) and label the rest of the mics by number that corresponds with where people are physically located on the stage. If you can get the same people on the same mic and in the same position each week then that's great. If not, a lot of churches save presets for each vocalist that can be loaded when needed. In a brand new setup, I'll typically get a basic EQ from one person (or myself if no one else is available) to copy to all the channels until I can dial in personalized settings for each vocal. Check out this video for more on how and why I label channels the way I do: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i17YeoaMhNGXiqc Finally, if you need help with purchasing and installing your X32 when you get one, please feel free to email me. If you're based in the US, I may be able to help you to save some money :) TechTuesday@AscensionWorship.com Thanks for watching and commenting! - Chad

off topic, but do you have a tut for recording on a usb drive? I'm having some problem recording without eq and effects, a raw recording. Even though I have selected PreEQ, when recording it records everything: fx, eq, low cut... everything. Am I doing something wrong?
@AWTechTuesday
@AWTechTuesday 6 жыл бұрын
Hey Daniel! I don't have a video specific to the USB recorder but I do have a video talking about using a post-fade mix for broadcast. This will allow you to adjust the effects but won't change your EQ - kzbin.info/www/bejne/b5XWfI2Ah82MZ6s You have to understand that when you change a tap point, it isn't a global setting, it's only for that one channel. So, when you click Pre-EQ on your recording, that means you are clicking Pre-EQ for whatever channels or mixes are going to your recording. As a default, Main L and Main R mix are going to the recording, so selecting Pre-EQ means that the EQ on your LR fader will not effect the recording but this does not mean the individual EQs of the channels going to that mix will not have an affect. I hope that all makes sense :) -Chad

How do you balance EQing vocals and feed back? iE. The vocal needs more sibilance, but you're fighting feedback.
@AWTechTuesday
@AWTechTuesday 7 жыл бұрын
Excellent question. You'll need to look at the big picture for that: How's your source? Is your vocalist able to get the mic closer and/or project better so you have more gain before feedback? Does the vocalist feel comfortable enough to sing out? Is there mix set properly for their needs? How are your mains positioned? Are they pointing at your mics at all? How are your monitors positioned? Do they need to be EQ'd ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/aZ7EdoyBqql_itU )? What kind of mic are you using? What's it's pickup pattern? Are you using your null points properly with your monitors ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/e5a9qWCKeK2HsKs )? Are you over-compressing the vocal? Are there other instruments like guitars that are covering up the highs of your vocals? There's a lot of info in this one comment. Haha. Work your way through these and you'll probably find 1 or 2 issues that could clean everything up for you. Please let me know if you have any more questions. -Chad

if i want clear cristal comp with no coloring or saturation and its accompanying harmonic distortion only clean unoticible compression i should use plug ins better right ??? i mean what can i get a more transparent compresion so it doesent hurt my tone when i sing but stil compress alot with the RNC fmr comp or the midas and beriger plug ins like stereo lesiure comp that come with the xr 12 and mr 12.........compreser hard and cleannnn cause i have to listen to foh always BIG HUGSSSS
@AWTechTuesday

andy M If you don’t want a lot of color from compression, then you probably want to use the good ole channel compressor. This is regarding drums and not vocals, but there are some audio examples with some extreme compression that you can hear in this video. I have some examples that use the channel compressor and some that use the 1176 modeler. m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/mnLSmnqbiMl7aNU - Chad

@AWTechTuesday
@AWTechTuesday 4 жыл бұрын
andy M I’m not saying better or worse. That’s subjective. Colored sound is not necessarily bad sound. I’ll say this though, when it comes to live sound, almost every channel has a channel compressor that does a good job but there is a limit to the number of rack FX available and I generally have more need for something super practical like a de-esser than a compressor emulation. In the studio, however, I’m the opposite, since I have more resources to work with.

Do you normally set the HPF that high or was that for the sake of the demo? Plenty of worship songs go as low as 100Hz for male vocals. Just curious
@AWTechTuesday
@AWTechTuesday 7 жыл бұрын
REALLY good question! Honestly, I was surprised too. I have found that, depending upon the equalizer I'm using, the HPF frequency differs due to the slope of the filter. For example, on an LS9, there have been times when looking at the EQ I would think there is no way that could be right. Haha. As a general rule, lately I've had my filter set around 120hz (on an X32) but I try to be really open and to always use my ears. On this particular recording, the subs were directly underneath the vocal mics and I think that may be why I pushed the filter a bit higher than I normally would. That and the fact that there is plenty of low-end provided by the drums, bass, and keys on this recording (though I didn't demonstrate that on the video). Thanks for watching and commenting. I really appreciate that you asked an excellent question without arguing with the video :) Have an amazing day! -Chad
@jouebien

Just to add to that: the idea is to bring the HPF up to a point were the low end rumble is gone and lows sounds of the voice you don't want to hear are removed or subdued. The point where the HPF starts clean up the sound is dependant on the vocalist, the vocalist gender, the attack slope of the HPF, how your FOH is set up (speaker placement, types of speakers being used and how the sub-woofers are being feed - from a cross over or AUX send). Generally female vocals will have a higher HPF and male vocals will have a lower but its not always the case. Most analogous boards have the HPF locked at 80 or 100 as that is the generalised place for it to sit for the average vocals + it requires less parts = cheaper construction = cheaper product/more profit/a produce that isn't as completed :. requires less R&D. You can use the HPF on a variety of instruments as well - try it on a acoustic or even a base guitar - although with those interments you don't need to bring the HPF up as far as you would with vocals. If I remember correctly Drew Brashler or GLB Productions have a video on using the HPF on things other than vocals.
@AWTechTuesday
@AWTechTuesday 7 жыл бұрын
Absolutely. For sure it gets used on any instrument that doesn't need to be in the subs (acoustic, overheads, etc, but especially vocals). Depending on the system, it will often get used somewhat conservatively on bass and kick to tighten up the sub bass frequencies (usually no higher than 60ish hz). Thanks for commenting. Have a great day! -Chad

Ironically it seems that the 835 that you are using sounds more defined and natural then the 58 you are fixing. What does the EQ on the 835 look like? I honestly think the 835 sounds better then the 58 does even after you do the needed EQ moves.
