Iron Havocs with autocannons are a must! If only for the theme.

Valid points. But don't forget the fact a vexilla is almost as much of a must take on these as an augury scanner is.. Considering, for 10 pts, it stops them running off your board edge when they flee.

I have a 10man squad of Heavy Bolters and a 10man squad of Volkite. The reasons for this is 1st Iron Warriors can make they're Heavy Bolters into Shrapnel Cannons and the 2nd I just Volkite weapons they're very cool to me and they do some damage against some units

Completely agree on missile launchers, lascannons, and volkite being the best choices. I really like the missile launchers as a cheaper option that's a very good utility weapon. Lascannons are hard to not pick though, with how good they are against so many things that are really good now.

As someone likely to pick up Imperial Fists as my legion, I plan to run a 10-man squad of assault cannons. Some missile launchers too as my Swiss army knife too. I can use rotor cannons as proxies for the assault cannons for a while, but I dread the day when I make a list that uses both.
@mersenniusprime2 жыл бұрын
I ran into that same issue myself. I am using the old resin Mk. 3 rotor cannons with the backpack feeds for assault cannons. With the huge backpack, larger gun, ammo belt, and Mk. 3 base, they are very noticeably different from rotor cannons and look much more like proper heavy weapons.

I forgot Fists could take Assault Cannons. Absolute must-have in any army. And yeah I'm facing the same problem, I might have to do the same thing lol.

One squad of missle launchers just feel right in a ton of lists. They don't really have a bad target especially with an auspex and nuncio voxes on other squads for the rerolls. Just a problem solver

It's a bit of a tough sell to be giving an Augury Scanner to a heavy flamer or multi-melta squad, seeing as neither weapon option can shoot at anything beyond 24" by default, never mind Night Fighting (which doesn't affect heavy flamers at all). Doing so anyway is really only good for the other two benefits: free Intercept reactions, and deployment area denial against scouts and infiltrators. Beyond that, you're pretty bang-on about the internal upgrades that a heavy support squad has access to. Trying to squeeze more use out of them requires attaching support characters to the unit, be they Techmarine, Master of Signals, Siege Breaker, or Armistos, that either have access to Cognis-Signum (some of these would also make taking an augury scanner and/or nuncio-vox redundant for the squad) or improve its weapons' effectiveness in some way (the Siege Breaker is especially good for granting Sunder to weapons that don't already have it). Mark my words, never underestimate the utility of a Cognis-Signum - in addition to being able to grant a nearby unit +1 ballistic skill, a model with a Cognis-Signum also has the Night Vision special rule, which allows it and the unit it's part of to be able to ignore the rules for Night Fighting and Shrouded. Conveniently, this also allows the unit to ignore the effects of Shroud Bombs. Pair that with a heavy support squad of any kind in any legion (not just Night Lords), and Night Fighting becomes their domain.
@lorgor4eva2 жыл бұрын
I’ve just got the heavy flame weapon sprue I’ve already got 2 5 man support squads of melta & hellfire guns but wanted some heavy squads with the bigger versions also. Might still do 2 units of one heavy & 1 support (10 man) flamers for the fluff & fun factor of the word bearers more than the power level.

My assault cannon HSS have been putting a lot of work in my otherwise pretty melee heavy list! For more serious games I feel like at least one more HSS would be ideal, for fun games the melee rush is super fun to play and gives even newer players a lot of counter possibilities, esp when playing day of sorrows and having no deepstrike. Still waiting on that blood angel video when you find time :3

Slight downside of the word bearer upgrade dropping the blast from 5" to 3" but more sources of pinning does seem real good to protect the valuable melee units some overwatch. Thanks for the video!

Normal Plasma cannon has 3" anyway. The Contemptor for example only has 5" (and therefor gets a downgrade in this regard) because he is using Gravis plasma cannons.

Absolutely agree on one of the later points, I never go full melee or gunline. For my legion (Scars) I usually use the 60/40 guideline, one of those is my shooting element and the other percentage my melee. Which of those I use for which depends on the Rite and units.

@azarael772 жыл бұрын
I'm just planning to start into Horus Heresy and your videos are helping me a lot. It's tough to decide on which legion to play and I'm left with Space Wolves, Raven Guard and Thousand Sons as possible choices now. Concerning the Thousand Sons I'm a bit worried that they will be really annoying to play though. I've heard that their legion trait might be a bit underwhelming and now I've heard about nemesis bolters being pretty strong and being able to make TS armies completely lose their unique playstyle by sniping out sergeants. So I was wondering if you could treat this topic of recon squads, nemesis bolters and how to deal with them?
@Hearesy2 жыл бұрын
Usually, you will see either one or zero nemesis bolter squads in an army. People will talk to theory about how those squads will ruin your games, and of course sometimes they will roll well, but a squad of five only just kills a single sergeant on average rolls and thats a 135 point recon unit killing one model per turn. What I’m getting at is that it is a boogeyman situation that wont happen in 99% of your games.

Worth pointing out that heavy flamer support quads are absolute murder in Zone Mortalis games.

Thanks for taking the time to reply even though I'm a bit late in viewing your videos, I was banking on the Reaping right of war to bring them, but now I do wonder if upgraded flamer's might be a better fit than heavy flamer's in that I could more easily use other rites!
