Problem-solving is what makes creative studio photography so fun. Every day poses new and exciting challenges to overcome. I spent most of a day using black foamboard, paper towel rolls, hot glue, and eggs...don't ask. Thanks, Karl!

Just a little add on ... HOME DEPOT OR LOWES. They have the those "polyboard stands" in the deck aisle. All the other stuff can be had from scrap and polished. Snoot you ask? Wax paper and pringles bottle with a Styrofoam cup in front with a certain hole drilled for the size light. Light too punchy? use a Skylight filter or a .25 stop filter

I was really sad to see Broncolor discontinuing the Satellite Staro and Evolution, But seeing your 'Solar Cooker' Solution is just pure ingenious!! I experimented building my own modifiers during my time at University playing around with an overhead softbox using PVC pipes to form a frame, with black duvetyne sides, and a large roll of clear white Ripstop Nylon as the diffusion from a boat sail suppliers. With 3 LED panels rigged inside, it wasn't quite a Chimera or a floating ceiling, but on a budget, I had some decent results. Fantastic video, and would definitely love to see some more DIY modifiers and a studio hacks.

Problem solving is key in any type business. When you threw the water in front of the white block, Did you use a motion sensor to trigger the camera?
@VisualEducationStudio4 жыл бұрын
Hi Ted, no I didn't use a trigger I just did it by eye. You can watch the shoot here - www.karltayloreducation.com/section/live-photo-shoots-archive/ there are many shoots I do use a trigger though.

Hi Karl, I'm considering a studio space of around 200 square meters that is 3,5 meters high. Keeping the space comfortable temperature wise is my biggest concern. What type of heater do you use and what yearly budget should I keep in mind for heating a bigger space. Your space is still much bigger I can tell but I'm a bit clueless as to these type of heaters. Any advice is very welcome. Is yours electricity based?
@VisualEducationStudio4 жыл бұрын
Hi Jim, we did use the blue heater that you saw in this video but that isn't efficient and it's very noisy as it's a fan heater. We have since switched to a more enviromentally friendly, less energy consumption and totally silent 'infra red' heaters that are totally silent and don't glow either. You can see them 8 seconds in this video they are the long things hanging between the lights. I'm afraid I don't know the brand name as our local electricity company did the installation.

@@VisualEducationStudio That is already very valuable information. Thanks for taking the time to reply!! You for sure have the best experience with a huge space! A dream space for all of us. I know you moved a few times before getting into this one but 'you made it'. You can be a proud man :) I will look into this as well then. Curious about what I might spend on a monthly basis. Luckily, cost wise at least, winters aren't as cold as they used to be.
