How can we address and tackle the issue of modern slavery in our supply chains? 21 million people are currently estimated to be victims of forced labour worldwide. How can businesses respond? Our experience in this area reveals that leading companies are embracing their obligations under various responsible business frameworks like the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and taking deliberative steps to tackle modern slavery and helping to prevent labour abuses, by promoting greater awareness of labour and human rights among their supply chain partners, and implementing effective standards and action plans which support the elimination of forced labour in their supply chains.

Thank you for this overview. Would really appreciate more information on Implementing Policy Safe Guards in a way that protects the buyer from potential harm ? Also are there telltale signs on receiving information that would indicate any of the traits of a Forced Labor Supplier?

Thank you for your comment. In this area the best defense is probably a good offence - so it's important to get out in front and conduct due diligence in your supply chain to actively identify potential risks so you can deal with them. While there may not be tell-tale signs as such - there are red flags within certain sectors, etc. that can influence where you should focus your attention. The higher the risk the greater the level of due diligence that is required.
