Usually just by giving it room in the mix and compression.

I think I just have some E.Q , slight compression and ozone imager just controlling where it sits in the mix

so begin with the main theme loop 8/16 bars then subtract/add from that main theme to build the separate sections (drop, chorus, bridge etc) ?

Yes exactly but then be sure to expand your ideas from that original 8/16 bar loop i.e evolving melodies and drums
