Great breakdown of all the streaming hardware and services for Atmos content. The 4K Amazon Firestick claims it does Atmos but you could never get it to work, so I am a assuming waiting for a software update would resolve the issue?

Thank you, yes, it was able to raise the Atmos flag on our AVR when we streamed Jack Ryan, but did not on movies that were in Atmos on other devices. That tells us it is a software issue. Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it

I have the fire tv 4k pendant, which I believe was discontinued and replaced by ten 4k stick, I get Atmos on prime, HBO max and Disney plus, but NOT Netflix. I have read that you need a fire cube for Netflix Atmos.

@@unclestevie2 It would be great if they told you what equipment as we tested most of the popular ones. It seems to us, the companies like Apple and Amazon who make hardware and are also in the business of renting you content, do not make it as easy to get all the content the way you want it like the brand-agnostic devices from Roku and those that use Android- and they will also try to direct you to rent content from them that may be free on other services. Thanks for the breakdown. However nothing beats a good 4k player with the Dolby Atmos physical disc. Of course you need the sound system (receiver and speakers) to give you the full bit rate which I enjoy immensely.

@@carltollerton2344 Thanks, the Kaleidescape is not a streamer. It downloads a bit for bit perfect copy of the film, which in many cases has more data than you can fit on a 4K Blu-ray disc.

@@AudioAdvice What is the average file size for movies on Kaleidescape? If these files are better than 4k bluerays then wouldnt't uploaders be ripping these for torrents? Tripple layer 4k blue ray discs have a capacity of up to 123GB. Obviously some of that capacity will be taken up by special features and other extras but do Kaleidescape movies really exceed this? I just hadn't heard of this service before and am curious. Thanks!

If your soundbar has HDMI inputs connect a source like an Apple 4kTV, Roku Ultra, or Nvidia Shield to the bar, then send the video out to your TV- if you bar has those connections

The only I know prime is showing films in Dolby Atmos is by checking what sound device your using my q700b shows on the lil screen on bar prime Dolby digital plus.but even tho Disney plus and netflix do display it on there title menu and also it flashes up on sound bar screen Dolby Atmos think paramount plus is also in Dolby digital plus

Thank You for the video.. I have lot of atmos videos in my external storage, so if i buy Apple TV 4k , how I will play those contents. or i have to buy Nvdia sheild pro or Roku Ultra? I was decided to buy Apple tv earlier but later noticed that there is no USB port. Currently i am using my windows laptop (with Dolby access enabled) to play those files, and xbox one s for netflix 4k but i am looking for something which can do all the job. Please advice.

Thank you for the time you devote to helping us along, I’ve been enjoying your content! I’m new’ish to the more advanced side of home theater setups and in particular, to Atmos…but I’m in the process of buying new hardware and I have some questions which I hope are not too long or cumbersome! 1. 2 CHEAP (old) AVRs vs 1 EXPENSIVE ONE? For the budget-minded, rather than buying one of the newer AVRs that offer all the channel outputs needed to have tons of speakers, could someone use 2 (older and cheaper) machines to power the same number of speakers…and still get proper Atmos configurations? 2. DO OLDER AVRs HAVE PROPER ATMOS OUTPUTS? There are used Denons selling online, like the AVR-3312Ci for around $100. While on the back it has 1 set of “Height” outputs, it doesn’t say Dolby Atmos on the machine. Are all “Height” outputs on older AVRs sending data properly to overhead speakers? The AVR-3312Ci does say Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD amongst other things, but not Atmos. Does a receiver *have to be* Atmos specific in order to pass the data/sound properly to the speakers that would be setup as ceiling/upwards-facing speakers (not to mention the ground-level speakers that Atmos communicates with)? 3. 2 AVR’s? -or 1 AVR + 1 AMPLIFIER? If the answer to question 1 is that yes, (you can buy a cheaper AVR to receive all the HDMI (and other) inputs from your sources…and if said AVR doesn’t have enough channel outputs to power 5-7 ground-level speakers AND 2-6 ceiling/upwards-facing speakers) …would one be able to use the pre outs to power an additional amplifier? -or would it need to be another AVR, to get the proper Atmos configured output to the speakers? 4. REGARDING THE SPEAKERS. If I put together the right AVR system (whether a single unit, or a combination of 2 or more) to power (up to) 7 ground-level speakers, plus 1 (2, or 3) sub-woofers, plus (up to) 6 ceiling (or upward-facing) speakers, can I mismatch different speakers and brands? For instance, I recently bought a set of Klipsch Reference Theater pack (before I knew about the Reference Cinema pack). If I keep the Theater pack and buy 2 more ground-level speakers…AS WELL as some overhead speakers (whether ceiling-mounted, or other) …could I shop around to add to this array, even if I end up getting cheap ceiling speakers? The ceiling speakers (round ones that install into the ceiling) seem pricey compared to the set 5.1 set I just bought. If I shop around and buy other brand speakers (whether the round ones made specifically for ceiling use or not), would that yield workable results? 5. KLIPSCH UPWARD-FACING vs CEILING SPEAKERS. Which are better? Would the Reference Cinema pack be a better option for having Atmos “ceiling sound” rather than using the Reference Theater pack and adding cheaper ceiling speakers (mounted on the ceilings and pointing down)? You mentioned Vudu as being the leader in atmos content for a purchase/rental platform. You also talked about apple+ streaming service. But forgot a couple important things, 100% of the original content on apple+ has both dolby vision and dolby atmos. Also Itunes exceeds Vudu's options as it is the ONLY one that has atmos on HD content. Vudu requires the UHD title to get the atmos soundtrack.

The Apple TV hardware model we tested with was the The first-generation Apple TV 4K that was released back in 2017 (with the Model number: A1842). Hope that helps!

The best platform is still the good ol' 4k Blu-ray disc. Lossless audio, the availability of 12 bit Dolby Vision, higher bitrates... you own something physical and not air and no one can take the film from you due to lapsed licensing or studio dickishness.

We have several flavors of Roku on the TV's at our house, when on Amazon and looking through titles, some show the ATMOS logo's, some don't. Also, it makes a difference on the Ultra what output you select because that will make the ATMOS indicators come and go too.

What about Netflix DVD and Blu-ray rental disc service? You can rent just about every disc that has Dolby Atmos for a reasonable price per month delivered to your door. Much cheaper than Redbox.

You will need Dolby Atmos compatible gear. It is unlikely your TV speakers will play Dolby Atmos. So you will either need a receiver or soundbar that can play Dolby Atmos content.

Yes our only real complaint with Apple is the way they make it difficult for you to use VUDU- which is our favorite streaming rental service. Apple wants you to rent from them. They are producing more and more original content in Atmos which is great to see. Thanks for watching

ATMOS is not the Bee's Knees although it is the most marketed! DTS is just as superior if not more so. If your Kit can process and decode DTS no WORRIES! True, my Firestick is lacking abundant Atmos content, but my DTS equipped Kit fills in the void sufficely especially with physical media.

I stream directly from my roku smart TV. When I was using my Samsung q950a soundbar you could really hear the height presence in movies when streaming from Disney plus or Netflix. I've since switched to using an onkyo rz810 in 5.1.2 move with upfiring speakers. Since going with the avr when atmos is detected the reciever say "dolby atmos" but I can't hear any height effects. I've turned the upfiring speakers up all the way with no discernable difference.

Yep me too on my 2019 65 and my 2020 75 nano. Not many out there but can find torrents that have DV and DDP5.1 atmos. Stream it via plex or copy to a portable hdd. Works great.

I played Dolby Atmos Movies on my inexpensive Hisense 4K TV which support the format, honestly, I couldn't tell the difference.

You really need a sound bar or separate speakers to appreciate it. We doubt you heard any difference on just TV speakers as well.

Great question, the Apple is a great unit, but you'll only get the Calibrated for Netflix mode if you use the built in apps. If those offer everything you need, we recommend you go that way. Thanks for watching

hi,just hooked up a new canton smart sounddeck 100 gen 2(dolby atmos ready)to my philips 75 inch pus7354-12 dolby atmos tv(2020) the tv notifies me when ever disney,netflix and hbo max atmos content is available but the sounddeck display stays blank or occaisionially registers "dolby surround movie". i have a sony 4k bluray hooked up to the sounddeck and this works flawlessly for atmos.all 3 devices provide atmos and all connections are hdmi arc which the cantons tech guys say is more than sufficient for atmos. this is very frustrating as i have very few 4k blurays and just forked out for all 3 streaming channels due to their decent atmos content.any input is greatly appreciated!

The Roku does not support lossless audio. So Dolby Digital TrueHD or DTS-HD MA will crash the device. That said, it does support lossy formats like Dolby Digital Plus and DTS (which means you can listen to compressed Dolby Atmos and DTS:X).

That is true, but streaming Atmos is not lossless. It would be a problem if you were trying to use Plex or something to play back ripped files that were lossless. Thanks for watching

Of course all Internet streaming uses lossy Atmos, but that’s not what I am referring to. Apparently, the Shield does support lossless audio. Is it enough for me to ditch my Roku? Probably not. But it’s also unlikely Roku will fix this, so…

I have a PS5 that can play UHD BD’s with immersive audio, but I stopped buying BD’s in 2017 (all of which were 1080p and shipped only with non-Dolby Atmos and non-DTS:X audio tracks). Either the device you are using for Netflix is not compatible or it is not seeing the HDMI flags to alert it that your system can play Atmos. Make sure your Netflix device is not set for PCM output. Thanks for watching

You say that Bluray disc offer Dolby Atmos playback so I'm wondering if that's why I see Dolby Atmos at times mentioned in certain disc when playing through my LG 5.1 Home Cinema System? Although when I asked customer services at LG they said my system isn't geared for that. Also seriously is there much difference between an ordinary 5.1 Home Cinema System like I have compared to a Dolby Atmos Home Cinema System? Because a normal 5.1 Home Cinema System is already immersive enough in it's own right. Seriously think we go overboard when it comes to Dolby Atmos. Also can you please tell if Amazon Echo Studio Speakers can play Dolby Atmos content? As Amazon claim they can and I have two of them set up to my third generation Amazon Fire Stick. Also my TV is one from more than ten years ago but like I said I have a Fire Stick Third Generation stick plugged into it. And can I only get true Dolby Atmos from my Echo Studio Speakers if they were connected to a amplifier or receiver? Amazon reckon that's not necessarily the case. And because I do use Netflix, Prime Video and Disney Plus I can only go by what comes up on the screen and so far nothing says Dolby Atmos but some programmes will say 4K UHD like the example on your video. Two Echo Studio Speakers are good for streaming but no way do they compare to my LG 5.1 Bluray Home Cinema System. Can only two Echo Studio Speakers produce Dolby Atmos without a receiver? I know I have many questions but for some people this whole Dolby Atmos thing is confusing because I thought to get true DOLBY ATMOS you at least need to have at least a 5.1 Cinema set up or more speakers. I get atmos on Disney+ and prime video on a 4K firestick but Netflix atmos is not available on the firestick but is available on the gen2 fire cube. Apple TV+ will not play atmos on fire tv devices because will not release it to fire tv devices.

Thanks for your comments. It seems the companies who make streaming hardware who are not in the business of selling you content, provide the most options for services that do Atmos. We are testing the Chromecast right now and for it's cost, it provides a lot of streaming apps that do Atmos.

cant beat a dolby atmos audio video receiver. mine does DTSX as well which actualy sound a lot better than atmos does. prob i found is my TV cant get disney+ so have to watch them through a browser on my PC. solved that by getting dolby atmos for windows and DTSX for windows. both r free from microsoft store. but u need to run the PC via a dolby atmos/DTSX AVR to get it to work. I used an HDMI cable to plug my PC into an AVR then an HDMI cable from the AVR into the arc socket on the TV. Then downloaded the free software from microsoft store and installed that on my PC. now i got dolby atmos and DTSX via my PC as well as my BD player. Main problem ive found is 3D films they have dolby atmos as well but they dont work on 4K TVs so u need an old 1080P 3D TV to watch those and plug that into a dolby atmos AVR. Weird as all 4K BD players come with 3D built in but 4K TVs dont have the 3D bit in them. Dont bother getting dolby atmos speakers as just about any speakers will work with it. With atmos u need at least a 5.1.2 system and set it to height speakers with 2 speakers mounted in the ceiling or high up on the wall as u can get them to get the overhead sounds but with DTSX u only need 1 speaker. U get charged more for having dolby atmos speakers and their not that good compared to the ones that r cheaper and dont have the atmos logo on them so ur paying for the logo not the speakers. My setup has 2000w Tibo hifi front speakers from my old tibo hifi system. accoustic solutions sub woofer and surround speakers. hieght speakers i have atax monitor speakers which r dolby atmos and cost me £100 the pair but they dot sound as good as the accoustic soluctions speakers i replaced with them. and centre speaker which is monoprice. My friend spent a lot of money geting high end speakers for his setup and he said mine is far better than his lol. He spent over £1000 for his setup mine cost less than £400.

Hi, great content however I have to disagree with your comment and rating for Amazon Prime Video where you say there is no logo/icon or indication that content is being streamed in Dolby Atmos. If you play an `Amazon Prime’ movie and press the Firestick up button to get the X-ray and Options menu (hamburger button on the control) you can then scroll up to audio where it shows language options and current audio output. Here in audio output it will show if content is being streamed in Dolby Atmos (I checked and content including The Tomorrow War, The Expanse season 5 etc were showing Dolby Atmos audio output. I agree it would be helpful if this was shown in movie summary button can you can search for Atmos content (and in majority if cases it is correct although I had the occasional discrepancy where it was indicating digital plus rather than Atmos although here again I believe Atmos, when streamed and being compressed rather than 4k Blu-ray is actually digital plus codec so many if us a labelling issue.

Dismal-has had the most consistent Atmos content for me. I don't have apple or Roku, so my 4k firestick and Samsung Atmos ready TV are what I use. Netflix has Atmos, but my subscription only puts out 5.1, need premium. You tube has it but I'm not sure if the same applies as Netflix regarding subscription. I usually buy 2nd hand blurays to feed my movie needs.

Just remember that not all Dolby Atmos is created equal, 99% of these online streaming services do Atmos over Dolby Digital Plus because it works over regular HDMI ARC, physical versions do Atmos over Dolby TrueHD.

Sorry but Dolby TrueHD is an older platform for Bluray that offers only 8 channels of uncompressed audio. Here is the spec from the Dolby site. professional.dolby.com/tv/dolby-truehd/2 But you are right, physical discs are superior from an audio and video standpoint when compared to streaming. @@AudioAdvice I dont think you understand...Atmos is metadata that is either carried Dolby Digital Plus or Dolby TrueHD, atleast for HOME theater setups. The streaming services do Atmos over Dolby Digital Plus which is why it's possible over regular HDMI ARC for smart TV's. Do your research. Here is proof from Dolby themselves from their youtube channel in a link below that talks about what I am talking about.
