Batteries are tough as hell to open. Been there, done that. Why didn't you get the lead grates that you pulled out? Looks like the only lead you got was from the top of the battery.

You weren't able to melt the plates at all?
@PugFaceMedia2 жыл бұрын
There’s an easier way but don’t try this at home. Toss entire battery into an open fire. All the plastic and acid will melt away. You will be left with a huge lead ingot clump.

These are the types of actions that are why global warming and severe pollution exist thousands of years before they should have started

@@JoeFromThatPlace…and from dinosaurs shitting in the woods. Yea, i understand your science! Still waiting from the predictions from 20 years ago to even come close to what s happening now.
@JoeFromThatPlace Жыл бұрын
@@Once_in_a_Lifetime it's not the predictions I'm focused on as they bring very little meaning and were often displayed by disreputable scientists or ones exaggerating immensely. It's the evidence that has shown carbon and chemical emissions increase greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere which directly speed up the effects of global warming. You may not live in an area that sees these effects yet many coastal areas and most of the north and south poles are being consistently devastated due to rapid melting of the ice glaciers. You don't have to focus on wild predictions to see the effects that it is already causing. Global warming was already going to happen because we were entering a new cycle of earth but we have sped it up to the extent where it will cause much more destruction to humanity than it would have naturally done. Any individual effort is better than doing nothing also so that is why I believe it is important to reduce these actions as there are countless better alternatives to make a successful and fulfilling life than to destroy the world for personal gain.

@PugFaceMedia I'm with you on that. Melted down several batteries a few years back using that exact method. The creator of this video is a complete moron. Dump acic into tub, neutralize with baking soda collect sludge, put in suitable sized metal can. Place sludge can and batteries in big hot fire. Drink beer until it cools collect lead. And before you greenies start, I'll go ahead and tell you IDGAF about your opinion nor your concerns. So FOIA.

Battery Lead (Pb) is alloyed with 10-15% Sb ( antimony) there so not pure! Also is allot of PbO2 ( dioxide of lead 4+) especially when battery is EoL, it must be reduced on fire with charcoal.... Also Antimony is more poisonous acts like arsenic... Fumes ( oxides 3+ and 5+ especially) and salts...
@JoeFromThatPlace Жыл бұрын
This is really good to know. It is great for most projects at home such as bullets, soldering, and roofing making this alloy still extremely important to third world countries and anyone who builds at home. There is a retail value but I don't think it's worth selling
@garfield12344 Жыл бұрын
@@JoeFromThatPlace stops the phenomenon of pasivization of lead in Sulphuric acid... Which renders lead baterry a dud sometimes ( temperature involved too)... also add more mechanical resistance to plates Sb is a harder metaloid, also it melts at 630°C... So rise melting point of lead alloy a bit...

don't do it like that; messy and bad for your health; i sell the whole battery to the scrap man; they pay about 6 or 7 eur for a 20 kg battery in Europe
@woodwood51643 жыл бұрын
@@josepeixoto3384 you will get more than 3 times the value if you sell the lead, rather than the whole battery, HOWEVER it's messy & to be honest dangerous so care must be exercised, though if someone has a few of them and can work safely then I suppose it may be worthwhile, as always one has a choice. individual.

Time is money, and scrapping the whole battery is easy, while getting ingots is tedious especially when processing the plates.
@orweyztungchiu58193 ай бұрын
Why did you not recover the lead lattice plates as well. From practical experience, breaking down car batteries is not worth the time and effort. Better to sell them intact to a scrap yard.

You use a saw to open the top and bottom, why not then cut into one of the sides and just fold the rest of the casing out of the way, seems like an extra struggle to get the plates out. I do, however appreciate your efforts, so thank you

Ask your local scrap yards. It will probably not be worth it to carry them far. If you need a couple of extra pennies, scrap them yourself. But... you only get about 20% more for a lot of dirty work. Decide for yourself...
