How to factorise algebra formulas - foundation level

How to factorise is a key algebra skill.
This video deals with factorising algebra formulas - 'algebraic expressions' (means the same thing!) - to foundation level GCSE.
Factorising is the opposite to expanding brackets, so it might be useful to view 'How to expand brackets containing algebraic terms' • How to expand brackets... .
I hope this video helps and please do add a comment below.
Also, visit www.3minutemath... for real maths, tips and techniques.

Hi - this video doesn't really look at this type of question. You might be better with 'How to factorise algebra formulas - cross method' on the playlist, I think it's the second video. In this case the two questions are 'what two number multiplied together make 2?' - this is the +2 and +1 and 'will those two numbers add to make 3?' (2 + 1 = 3) I use a cross method - which is easier to draw on a board than type on a comment! I hope the other video helps.

Hi - this is a special case called 'the difference of two squares.' As 9 is a square number, and the 1 from y^2, you can factorise as (3x +1)(3x - 1). I'll post a video about this and let you know when done. All best S :-)
