I have my female betta in a 10 with 8 zebra danios. I spray and pray with them, they all grab what they can. I go a little heavy handed with it, they clean up after themselves and she has learned to stay near the bottom. I feed falling micro pellets and flakes. While the danios are up top gobbling down the flakes, the movement drops the pellets for my girl down. Everyones happy!

Spray and pray... lmao I love that 🤣

That's really interesting that you keep danio's and a beta and Creative Pet Keeping keeps blue tetras with a beta. I was under the impression that these generally don't mix (as the tetras and danios can be fin nippers). I went with a gourami as my center piece fish due to this (I have both the tetras and danio's in my tank). Do either of you have a problem with fin nipping?
@justabettafish3127 Жыл бұрын
@@pswitzeny no! I'd never add a male to a danio tank though personally

I have the opposite issue with my betta, he eats it ALL, floating scales, pellets, frozen food, even sinking pellets for corydoras...I will use the "ALL-IN" tactic so my tetras can get more food with my beta not being overfed. Very nice learning how to use that "dropper-pipe-thingy" too.

Literally what I’m going through! He eats everything!

You have such gentle Betta fish. Mine would get to the tankmates' food before they do and overeat himself. I tried many feeding routines but ended up with having to treat bloat on a regular basis, where each time he did get better, except for that last time when he swallowed an entire shrimp! I've never kept community tanks ever since. Though part of me wants to see my Bettas interact more and be more lively in their surrounding, it's simply too much risk. Most fish need more food than Bettas do, so it's always overeating problems for me.

Looked for exact subject for a while ago! Found this a bit late but nevertheless it's great there is a vid about it. When I got my betta girl, the feeding became the obvious dilemma immediately, she was a subtle and shy one, no match to scalarers, quick ternezias and greedy gouramis. But she had a super power. She was very tame and not afraid of a hand at all. So in times of great competition for frozen worms, I just finger feed her. She eats from the finger :) The dry food on the other hand is floating around and she, staying on the edges, has a good chance to eat her full without being involved in a mosh pit. She is now fully used to the her large tank mates and not much keeping back anymore :) She navigates them with ease and grace.

Beautiful king betta!! My betta is by herself, so I soak vibra bites (her fave) in garlic guard, then user a tweezer to let her chase it around a bit before she bites it. She loves them because it looks like a worm! Have to be careful she doesn’t overeat though, cause they are bigger than pellets. She also loves frozen brine shrimp. 😍❤️

I like garlic guard a lot! I think you have a great system in place to feed your betta.

Most of my bettas are in divided 10g tanks, so I take the lids off and go down the row dropping 1 or 2 pellets at a time, then circling back to the beginning, or tong feeding the larger frozen foods. Frozen foods in the rotation include blood worms, brine shrimp, spirulina enhanced mysis shrimp (smaller fish get daphnia or baby brine). I also have one betta in a 30g community tank with 2 schools of corydoras. My approach is different for him - I drop food in 3 or 4 places in the tank at once and hope the corys can get some! 😆 Seriously though, I will target feed him a couple of pellets or a piece or two of frozen, but then I just let him get his share of the rest of the food. That tank still gets plenty of frozen, but also some bottom feeder pellets, community flake, etc.

I’ve had my betta for over a year now and have kept him in a 5 gallon do to my dorms restrictions. I am moving into my own apartment soon and want to do a 29 gallon planted community tank. Do you think I should do it? He’s a plakat if that makes a difference. I was thinking of doing a school of 15 cardinal tetras and 2 Kuhli Loaches.

Let's make a pros and cons list Pros: - More space to swim and explore..exciting! - Larger water volume easier to maintain - A more stimulating environment Cons: - Exposure to new fish may lead to disease - Could be stressful going from a calm solo tank to a community setup - sometimes larger tanks stress out some bettas You can also add your own pros and cons. I hope this helps you decide. Imo, if your betta spent a long time in a 5 gal..he might be used to it and happy there. You might be able to keep him there and enjoy your 29 gal as a community tank..but if u want to let him try the 29..go for it 😊

I like to drop a pinch of the super tiny micro pellets for my rabsoras and while they're chasing it around the middle of the tank I feed my Bettas their foods over to the sides and top of the tank

Sometimes soaking it in garlic guard helps but some bettas just like their pellets or flake more.
