Hi thank you for this video. What if the student didn't have any sort of income? If the parents are paying the tuition fees (tuition fees, inside university residence fees, meals fees) then in which form? How to register for a student tax filing account?

Very useful video! I am confused about my residency status. In 2023, I stayed in Canada for less than 183 days. However, I have a Canadian bank account, do I count as a resident then? Thank you!

Yes, you do, especially if you earned income during that time and haven't mentioned your earnings in income tax in your home country. If you have credit in a high-yield savings account or any account that earns you profit, you need to file taxes.

As an international student studying in Canada, filing your taxes is essential. Let’s break it down: Tuition Tax Credit: You can claim the Tuition Tax Credit for your 1-year tuition. This credit helps reduce the amount of tax you owe. Refund vs. Credit: The Tuition Tax Credit is non-refundable. It won’t directly give you a refund. Instead, it’ll be used to offset your tax liability for the current year. How to Claim: Make sure you have your T2202 form (Tuition, Education, and Textbook Amounts Certificate) from your educational institution. When filing your tax return, include the tuition amount on the appropriate line. Remember, every bit counts! If you found the video helpful, consider supporting me with a virtual coffee.
