So hoping this Platinum will be enjoyable albeit less "solid" feeling than the VP. I got mine substantially less that the $100+ retail including separate convertor, so I'm glad I waited the year.

I have a platinum curidas extra fine nib. I use the cartridge that came with the pen and i refill the same one using a syringe. Does it matter if i let the ink flow down with the nib inside the pen? And something else.... i don't know if it's the extra fine nib...but the ink doesn't seem to flow as it should be....it feels like there is no ink, even though the cartridge is full

haha it's all good! All in all, I think this pen is exactly what I expected it to be. A lot of folks were expecting a Vanishing Point for half the price...and in core functionality, that's what it is. But the feel of it isn't on part with the VP, it's much lighter and doesn't click as firmly as the VP. it feels like it has a lot of plastic parts, which it does. And the VP feels like it has more metal parts, which it does. Both good pens, and both appropriately priced, in my opinion. So I'm a fan of both for different reasons. I really like the colored demo aspect of the Curidas. -Brian

Try a good cleaning first, that often helps. If not, try out a couple of different inks if you have them on hand and see if it's consistent with all inks. If you need to press down the nib a little on the page to open up the tines, that can increase the flow and help, just don't press it too hard to as to damage it. -Brian

Here in 2022 & I’m finally getting around to using my Curidas pens. Great video as always, Brian; here’s a strange question for you or anyone here. When I click to retract the nib, the nib door takes a few seconds to gradually swing the door closed. Sometimes it takes longer. This happens with all of the Curidas I own. Now I am a silicone lubricant freak, so when I get a pen, I flush it and then I apply a light layer on all cartridge parts and cap threads. It’s really a habit I’ve gotten into, as our water in AZ is extremely hard and I’ve had pen parts get calcium residue & hard to turn if I don’t lube them. BTW I use the Super Lube PTFE clear synthetic grease that’s NSF (former USDA) food grade, not petroleum based & made in USA. It looks & feels identical to the grease that some pen retailers sell. The other question is, are the nib units available separately? Thanks!

Great instructional video, from a great pen instructor maestro! Brian, you haven’t lost your touch over the last 10 years or so. Just the right pace for us old coots who don’t hear as well as we did 10 years ago. Only one suggestion: ditch the tacky background music it is not needed for an instructional video, nor helpful especially for this hard of hearing old coot, even though I am using earbuds. I kept wondering what is that noise, kept concentrating on figuring it out, instead of what your were saying. Ended up watching a second time to get all of your excellent spot on explanation. The end caution was great and needed, though I found the pen tolerant of assembly mistakes, others might not be so lucky. Now for the Curidas itself: Excellent pen at half the price of a VP and not as heavy and slippery. It hasn’t left my sight since receiving mine the end of August after returning my original. (A Valentine gift from my wife that arrived in June with the typical early release, cracked feed.) Thank you Goulet Pens for your as always great service. A fantastic EDC, even in these pandemic times, great one handed operation in Pharmacy and Bank Drive drive ups, no need to sanitize, which would not be good for the plastic. I quit carrying heavy all metal chrome pens or knock off 2 buck pens to spray. Love its fiddley complexity, that’s what I use and collect pens for: different solutions for a basic problem -carrying colored water safely and delivering it to paper as words. I’m wondering if the Curidas has more parts than a Sheaffer Snorkel? If so it has set a new record. I could go on but will do that on my upcoming IG review.
@Gouletpens4 жыл бұрын
That's good feedback about the music in the background, I'll give that some serious consideration Alan. I definitely don't want to make it hard to hear. I think sometimes when I have a long video like this on a very specific topic, I feel like it gets a little boring just with me talking, which is why I wanted the music in the background. But not if it's making it harder to hear. Haha, I'm positive the Curidas doesn't have more parts than a Snorkel! That pen was amazingly complicated inside, but so very cool to fill ;) Thanks for sharing all your insights- Brian

I bought one of these and had to return it. It was broken right out of the box. The little metal post Brian refers to slips. The pen is also uncomfortable. It did not quite live up to the hype. It also does not take a standard converter.
@spiritus15124 жыл бұрын
A common issue is a cracked feed under the nib. Mine had this and like others’ it didn’t worsen or really affect anything. Otherwise, it’s not the most comfortable pen for me and a bit temperamental to fiddle with.
@abumpers78344 жыл бұрын
@@d.s.5279 if you don't have 1 and are looking for a retractable, I would suggest shopping around for a vanishing point. Of the 2, I find my vp more comfortable and will buy another but won't buy another curidas.

Sorry to hear about that. They did have some issues with cracked feeds and they're aware of it and making improvements on it. Hopefully that's not going to continue to be something we see but it was an unfortunate results with some people's pens from the first shipment of pens we saw. As for the comfort, I think that's going to be a personal preference thing, and I think with any pen like this with the clip at the front, it's going to be that much more hit-or-miss for some people, I totally get that -Brian

I’ve talked with others on this. May have to do with not being sued by other companies, notably Pilot, for copying a design. I believe there was a past Platinum knock pen that was discontinued for this reason. This is just speculation of course.

I get where you're coming from...keep in mind, in "real time", it takes me no more time to fill this pen than any other, I am over explaining it here because just not that many people are familiar with retractable fountain pens in general. But one thing I've learned is that fountain pens as a whole are deceivingly complicated by their very nature, it's essentially a controlled leak! There's a lot of engineering going on, and a lot of patents out there to dance around, for sure. I think retractable pen are much more complicated, too. The Vanishing Point, Lamy Dialog 3, Pilot Fermo, Vanishing Point LS, Stipula DaVinci, they're all quite complex inside, you just don't usually see their interior parts. With the Curidas, you do. It really does need to be complex to actually function. -Brian
