I've been looking for a video that addressed how to handle self-employment in addition to an employee job and this one was it! Thank you for your detailed explanation and for being friendly and approachable in the language you use. Makes a huge difference!

Can you claim yourself in step 3 under other dependents? Filing single and claiming myself?

Please, I need information about the Exempt. I have an employer sent me a link and it's forcing me to write exempt while I don't want that. What shall I do and what do you recommend. Single and one job.

Is it better to fill out a W4 married filing separately even though you are married file jointly? My wife and I work 2 jobs each and owe this year

Many videos explain what a W-4 is, but none offer the kind of walkthrough you provide. Thank you!

How do I calculate the amount I should put on 4c? I looked at the income graph on the w-4 form and put the number that was at the intersection of my husband's income and my own on the 4c. I divided that number first by 26 and put the results on 4c. So at the intersection of both our incomes, it was $6,270. Then I divided $6,270 by 26 weeks since he gets paid every 2 weeks. But that ended up being $241 per paycheck for extra withholding. Having an extra $200 taken from my paycheck would be a lot since my paychecks are only $600 every week.

ugh this video gives basic instructions for a W4 but doesn't exactly address how to fill it out to have less taxes withheld

This has been a source of confusion. My husband is the breadwinner. We have three kids. So he has not been sure how to do it right.

First, if given the choice, you want to choose the option for "Married Filing Jointly" over "Married Filing Separately" (except in rare circumstances). So in Step 1c, you would select the second box. Next, in Step 3, you fill in the numbers. The values will depend on how old your kids are. For example, if all your kids are age 16 or less, then you multiply (3 x $2000) = $6000. And if you have one child age 17 or older, and the other two are 16 or younger, then you multiply (2 x $2000 = $4000) in the first line, and (1 X $500 = $500) in the second line. Then you add these together and put the total after the "3" on the right side of the page. In this case, the total is ($4000+$500) = $4500. If you are unsure about anything, then your husband should stop by his Human Resources department where he works. Ask one of the workers there to walk him through the process of filling out the form. When you are done, have them make you a copy for your records. Then you will be all set.

Agreed, this video is basically saying what the instructions that come with the form says, which doesn't help much. If it did, we wouldn't need the video to begin with.
