I am new to Notary & also in FLA - my question is: will the docs that I stamp & sign always be provided by the client? How do you know ahead of time, that you needed to make corrections? I assumed that all documents would always be presented to me....

No, you will most often be sent the documents and you will print them and bring them to meet the client. You would only be provided the documents if you are doing a signing in the title office. It all depends on when you will receive them. You will only know if you need to make corrections to the notarial certificates once you receive the documents. You might need to change the venue or correct the wording.

You're so welcome! There are a few scenarios where you could use a stamp. If a document has a notarial certificate from another state, you could line through the other certificate, date and initial it, and stamp with your state's notarial certificate. You could also use it if the document has a certificate that is missing a lot of verbiage to make it compliant in your state. You would, of course, need to ask your signer if they want to use a jurat or acknowledgement certificate and then stamp that to on the document and notarize like you normally would. I personally try not to make too many modifications to a document and will just write in what I need to in order for it to be compliant in my state but having a certificate stamp is a good alternative.

Does the individual bring the acknowledgment or Jurat that needs to be notarized with them?

@@AnaLopez-mh9ry yes, they’ll bring the document(s) and most will already the notary certificate include. If not, you would attached a loose certificate that you notarize.

NICOLE ROBERTS: Question I have is, in the OPtional DESCRIPTION OF ATTACHED DOCUMENT, what does it mean SIGNER OTHER THAN NAMED ABOVE????? Is that the notarys signature OR signer to sign?? Very confused on that. Thank you for answering.

Hi! The optional portion is if you want to add an additional description of what the document is or the name of it. I have seen this used if it's a loose certificate that you attach so then you know exactly which document it should go with. The "other signature" is for a person representing the person or business written in the notarial certificate. For example, it could be for a minor or a POA. Hope that helps!

Sometimes the notarial certificates will be pre-filled with the signer’s name. You’ll just write in your information, any other information needed depending on your state (like in FL if it’s a RON or not), sign, and stamp it.

Good question! You do not. You just ask if they verbally affirm if the affidavit is true and they will say back to you “I do” or “I swear.”

@@franciscaleon7621 Some states require it and some states require it so it could depend where you live! Some states will require people to say “I do” as well. In Florida it’s not required. But check with your state’s notarial guidelines!

Hey!! I use Notary Gadget (there’s a link in the description) to keep track of a lot of things like mileage and number of notarial acts. And then I keep track of my expenses through my business checking account and just a basic spreadsheet. But I’d definitely recommend talking with a tax expert so they can give you advice unique to you and your business!
