I have had a 80 in. by 36in. 3in. thick slab of live edge redwood leaning up against my cabin wall for 5 1/2 years. I have a coffee table I really like. Its sturdy and has drawers built into the under side. I am going to strip the gloss finish on the coffee table, Then paint it a very dark red satin enamel. The redwood will receive a satin oil finish and will be mounted on top. I really like paint and oil finish combo finishes. It will go well with knotty pine interior of my little cabin.

That's beautiful brotha. I got my first slab today a real pretty myrtlewood and this looks great for filling the voids. Unfortunately I've got some scratches from the belt sander that I just cant get out with either a higher grit or the lighter palm sander. Great video

Thanks for a great video. It was very instructive for me in my upcoming project. I was wondering how you keep the wood from cracking on the natural ends? I have live wood slabs that have cracked even though they were dried in 2 different environments before being brought into the house where they cracked after 3 days.

From a fellow wood worker, from WAY ACROSS the pond in Welcome, North Carolina, awesome advice, stock & finished product. But Nate, the hair son,... Damn that's some unruly hair!

Hey mate, having a problem mixing my bog & oxide. The colour turns out grey & it doesn't seem to want to go black - any suggestions??

Great video. Picking up my slab today and your video is invaluable. It's got one hole though the slab about 50mm diameter. Is that too big to bog?

Thanks! Glad we could help. Maybe we could help you out with your next slab also :) We would not recommend this formula for the knot we would use resin - we like Dalchem resin very easy to use, a beautiful and clear finish.

Sorry for late reply - hope it all went well - not that would have been fine, just need to secure the back of the slab to make sure the bog stays put while drying

Great work mate... I have a rough sawn red gum slab I am using to build a table. I have sanded the top and it is ready to seal with marine grade varnish. Do you think I can seal the bottom without sanding it, just for protection? Would it work out? Thank you.
@thewoodproject2126
@thewoodproject2126 4 жыл бұрын
Hey! It wouldn't matter if you didnt sand the bottom, however it would be better to just give it a quick once over with 60 grit - for a more professional finish & to make sure it doesn't feel rough underneath.

@@alfarydml1508 Not trying to take anything from Nathan, his work and slabs are fantastic, but a very old and accomplished woodworker told me, re coating, "what ever you do to the top, do to the bottom" (and ends and sides of course).
