This is highly informative! I want to add that when reading a contract, it pays to be sceptical and not to make false assumptions. Don't read into it what is not there. Also, if something is not mentioned, it might be absent. For example, I applied for a job recently, and the contract said "Party B is entitled to 11 working days leave. If Party B wants to take more than 5 days leave, they need Party A's special permission." I could have thought, "Oh, but of course, they mean more than 5 days at a time." But that was not the case. The contract dies not say that. Red days weren't mentioned-and the Skype interview was on a red day! The next sentence in the vacation section was a warning about absences. Basically, I would have to beg for any time off at all. Red flag No.1. I decided to go to the hagwon to check it out. The head foreign teacher made it seem very organised, with great communication. But then I found out that working hours were longer than advertised, and that there was no housing for 6 months! That was 2 more red flags. During the Skype interview, the director had repeated what the recruiter had said. I ended up rejecting this job. But had I not gone into the school, and had I signed the contract without reading it, I might have had a lot of trouble, because I can't afford key money.

That was so informative, I have heard horrible things about hagwons and that you can get more pay than public schools but no one says how much exactly. This made me feel that maybe hagwons can be an option for me when I hopefully move to Korea 🤞

Thanks for this - I am literally about to start interviews with hagwons next week. Do you talk about money / holidays in the initial interview or wait until the offer?

Odessa how do foreigners move stuff out from their apartment at the end of contract are there English speaking movers?
@OdessaGxox
@OdessaGxox Жыл бұрын
Hi! I used the app gogo x which is all in English but the driver so is assigned to you might not speak English but it’s pretty simple. You can also find English speaking movers but they may charge alittle more. I’m not sure how you can find them sorry? 😃

This was super helpful as I am being offered a job at a poly school. I'm weary about the work hours being 9:to 6:10 and 9 to 6:55, and some other things in the contract that they sent me to sign. would you mind if i sent you the contract?
@John-qd5of

I am an experienced teacher, so I can tell you that teaching from 9 a.m. to 6:55 is a long working day. Are they paying 3 million won? If it is 2.5 million, then walk away.

Hi, Do these hogwons also accept candidates from non native English speaking country? Do you see indians as teachers there?

I believe so, you usually need to get your English certificates of some kind to show your English level is high etc 😊

Hello!! it depends on the school. At my first public school and then at my first private school I didn’t. But at my new school I do have to cover up all my tattoos ☺️ honestly I don’t really say anything unless they specially mention it!
