How to find a new Mini / BMW wheel nut lock key when it is lost

It happens. Cars come without the key / adaptor for the wheel nut lock. It happened to me on a Mini which has an original Mini / BMW lock. It took me quite some effort to find the correct key. When you know how to do, it is so easy and is much better then destroying it.

I live over 8 hours from the nearest mini dealer. I called that dealership and asked about counting the splines and he said noooo they're all different ... Cmon ... thank you for the video

Thanks for this helpful video. After counting all the splines on my wheel lock to determine what number lock key I’d need from your helpful chart, I found that the number (35) was written on the other end of the wheel lock!!😅

thanks very much for the video. i've got an issue. just counted the splines/ teeth and only habe 13. i can upload the pic. would there be a key part number for that as well? thank you!

I would expect that 13 should be 14, which is the least as I'm aware of

Does the wheel key need to fit all the way in the same depth? I found one with the correct number of ridges (15) but it is a bit too long, so when I enter it, a bit of the key sticks out. Is this ok? It is a 31/15 for a 2019 mini 4 door hardtop.

The key should fit in entirely, otherwise you can't apply enough torque to loosen. Having said that, you might be lucky that it just grips enough. Be careful not to damage it!
