Waste of time. You didn't tell us how to diagnose/find the leak, you just told us you need fancy equipment.And you didn't even show how to use that. The only useful thing in this was showing how you can supply your house with water while you diagnose.

Were you able to find the leak? I’m still looking for a video to help😂
@richardhaley3347 Жыл бұрын
Im a plumber with leak detection experience. Running temporary pex pipe to supply the house was overkill. You determine a leak by watching the meter after shutting off all the toilets in the house. If the meter moves when everything is off then you have a leak.Turn off all the hot water in the house, if the meter continues to move then the leak is on the cold water side. Shut off the main water supply valve at the house. If the movement at the meter continues then you have a leak between the meter and the house. If you have an irrigation system you can isolate that as well. Finding the leak is done by inducing nitrogen against the water flow at the point you know you are at the down line location of the leak. As the nitrogen is induced the technician is watching and listening for the nitrogen to hit where the pipe is leaking. Then, the technician is listening with a sonic amplifier to hear the leak. In cases where the pipe is deeper in the ground helium instead of nitrogen is used. When inducing helium then tech will listen for a squelling sound and will use another device called a helium sniffer to find the leak. With very large pipe on commercial buildings a device called a coorelator is used. This device works off a magnetic field and the signiture a leak makes in the pipe. Call qualified, trained people.😂

I have a huge leak* in an outdoor buried PVC line (with its own shutoff valve). The line is isolated from everything except three outside spigots. Unfortunately, our house is built on a hill, and the entire hill (covered with bus-size half-buried boulders) was made buildable by bringing in countless truckloads of fill. That means the leak water doesn’t show up anywhere; the leak apparently goes into the fill, and leaves no evidence of a leak. In order to find the leak, I even paid $400 to a man that specializes in locating underground utilities. No luck at all; his state of the art equipment will not find PVC pipes, and rapid on/off valve cycles didn’t produce any underground sounds that he could detect. My final alternative now is to hire men (younger and stronger than me) to dig a trench to expose the PVC pipe, looking for a tee or a break in the line (100 feet or so). *The “leak” is so big that when I pressurize the line the spigot water drops to maybe half flow, and even when the spigots are off, the house water pressure drops dramatically.

Lol, my water department just told me it was my problem to find it. I'm a grandmother on social security and I can't pay plumbers large amounts of money to do this kind of thing.

Great selling job on Pex, but you really did not show anything at all about how you ACTUALLY located the leak. You mentioned, air tank, safe gas, and acoustics, but this would have been a good teaching video if you had demonstrated how those techniques are done. I still do not know how you actually found the leak at the edge of that "deck" that you mentioned. For that reason, I give you a thumbs down instead of up.

The irrigation system SHOULD have been designed with a shut-off valve where it ties in to the main water supply. You shouldn't have to run a water line to the house, lol. WTF?

Super poor communications and, really, 10 minutes of my life gone forever. After rambling on and on, telling us about how he diverted the house water while locating the leak, maybe with a micro -camera, but no, at 5:30 it seems he has a whole host of techniques and out of thin air, finds the leak at a 90 degree joint without saying how. Thanks for nothing.
