Thank you so much! From Brazil here. Your instructions helped me in: 1. develop index thumb finger stretching. 2. Keep palm facing the fingerboard. 3. Know note name and position I'm playing.

Love the fact that you wrote this down in the comments. Not only helps you retain the information but others as well. Thank you!!! We LOVE Brazil!!! Not that we have been lol. Closest was in Lisbon at a Brazilian restaurant with excellent Brazilian waiters, Brazilian food, and sangria. YUM!

Thank you so much! I've just started learning notes above just the four fingers on each string, and I'm excited to apply this to my playing. You do a great job of explaining what you're doing, and I can really tell you're experienced not only with violin but teaching it as well!

You are most welcome Tikki. Thanks for watching. You are spot on...Played violin since I was 9 and have over 20 years teaching experience.

never knew that you can remove the screeching with moving your bow closer to the bridge, i knew from the first I WAS MISSING SOMETHING, i knew something was off and that is it, thanks alot 😊😊

Wow, thank you so much! I am in 7th position on my viola and the tone was lousy. All these tips made a huge difference. Now I'll work to play closer to the bridge. every time I am out of 1st position. This really made my day!

I really appreciate how your videos layer on each other - positions, shifting, the fundamentals that will lead to gorgeous tone. This one didn't lead to G.T. yet, but I'll keep working. I know the notes and played them fairly accurately. But by the time I was finished, the cat was sitting in the hallway glaring at me. I think she was regretting coming home with us 😉. Thanks for sharing these gifts.

Very funny about your cat lol. A violinist in Louisville who attends my online workshops has a cat that LOVES to be on camera throughout the workshop. He is hilarious. He walks across the computer screen, puts his tail in the camera...just precious. I am sure he would play the violin if he could.

So, how could I keep a straight bow while getting it closer to the bridge? Also are we required to push on the string or do we play it like a harmonic?

Great information! What I’ve really been having trouble with is hitting a high note immediately after playing lower notes. I can never find it quickly and jump up to a really out of tune note. Any suggestions?

Great lesson. I have a question. I'm an adult beginner , about 14 months since starting. I'm now getting in to higher positions (5th and above) do the same tips for tone apply on the G and D strings in high positions? I'm not to familiar with classical violin repertoire yet, do many include high positions on G and D strings? Thanks

I know that your comment has been 6 months ago but I’d suggest Sevcik op 8 to exercise different positions on the G, D, A, E strings. But keep in mind that your 1st position must be correct and in tune first. Good luck!

Hello, I just listened to your video. The factors on a quality tone are several. Firstly, the mortar should be a good violin, rightly champion Violin. Then the strings that you play, whether metal, or intestine, or nylon. Then it is necessary to look at the state of the horse and what rose you paint them. And if we have correctly answered questions, then it is necessary to look at what basics we got from teachers in the first beginnings of our playing and getting to know about creating tones and what do you do with the muscles and what important role playing fingers on right hand The The violinist first hears a tone before playing, then he wants him and the hand takes him. I am learning my students. If they don't have it in the idea and in the brain, it is unnecessary after them want something. The most important is the idea and subsequent implementation. The result is corrected ears and we are looking for the highest quality tones. In this way, I learned it in Italy at major Italian teachers and I am thankful today for their access and leadership !!! I apologize for English, I am an older year and I come from the Czech Republic.

Yes, obviously equipment and ear training affects the end result.

Is it okay to adjust the bridge because I think it makes my string high that I can't make it touch the fingerboard
@andrewanderson30163 жыл бұрын
Do not do it on your own. You should find a professional luthier examine it and see if they can adjust your bridge or get you a new one
@HeatherKaye2 жыл бұрын
Definitely go to a luthier to have that done.

Is there a highest note on the D and A strings before the adjacent strings prevent the bow being able to touch the depressed string? Obviously playing closer to the bridge helps. Thanks
@HeatherKaye2 жыл бұрын
If this is happening you may want to have your bridge checked....

No need to press down to the fingerboard. Use very light pressure.
