Another video where I hit the 'Like' button. Great tips. A lot of experienced people know these tips but ignore them. So many times I've seen resellers rush through GW at break-neck speed. They go out empty-handed, leaving the good stuff for me. Look in every nook and cranny and hidey-hole (people stick valuable items in the most odd places). Another good tip for newbies (and I still feel new with so much to learn) is to immediately start an inventory system--big time-saver. You think you will know where everything is when you only have 100 items, but today I will probably spend 1-2 hours looking for an item that sold over the weekend (listed when I first started out) because I thought I'd remember where everything was placed when I began this journey.

Master a category, crush it, and then add another category to your knowledge. Repeat this process over and over again. Be a continuous learner. I watch pickers that are stuck in a rut, missing out on great items because they don't know enough.

Hi, Mike. I’m in the UK and I follow your advice a lot when seeking out items of value. Where I live, which isn’t rural, there are several places I frequently buy from, including thrift (charity) shops, house clearance depots and vintage furniture stores. It’s so important to build a good relationship with store owners/workers so you know what’s available and when. Thank you, buddy. Keep up the great work. Greeting from across the pond!👍🏻🙏

Love tip #1! You made me realize how much I've let that slip by the wayside as my box of business cards have been sitting in my desk NOT being used for over 2 years. My goal this year: go to local estate sales and pass them out, and offer to buy up the books and other items that are leftover. I love selling vintage books! I live in a small town in northern Michigan, so sourcing is a challenge!

Should I take it somewhere to get it graded authenticated or what? I’ve researched a little of the numbers the gold gilding Rawlings or jk Rawlings the #1 on the spine & the cover. But eBay is all over the place with pricing. I need your book expertise.

That is the one thing I always tell others whether it be at garage sales, estate sales or thrift stores. You simply can not get everything. It just isn't realistic in this business. More than likely the same stuff comes back around at some future point. As for the extremely rude pickers/resellers out there that grab stuff right out of other peoples hands or try and run over them to get to things in a thrift store this business will eventually spit them out. I've seen it time and again.

Great video Mike, cool shirt you're wearing too. Thanks for the detailed explanation of your picking process, I will implement some of those ideas as well. Just one little thing to add, be courteous, and if you decide not to purchase an item, put it back where you found it instead of dumping it the toy section. I frequent the local goodwill outlet in my area, and people there are awful, they load up a cart with a bunch of clothing, take it back into a corner to sort through it then throw what they don't want on top of the books and housewares. It's inconsiderate and drives me nuts. Just remember the Golden Rule and picking will be a lot more fun everyone. Have a Happy & Safe 4th of July my friend and Happy Picking.

I use ATM cash day before as a way to show I took cash out. Otherwise you are on an honor system. I feel the ATM tracks what I'm doing and they can see what is happening there.

I supported me self in trade school picking, even after I got out of school I basically picked and then fixed then sold. Retail stores are miserable, they cost no matter if you make, or don't make any money. working out of your house or a shed is so much better. you have to live some where any how. dealing through fleabay can be aggravating, but no where as bad as face to face in a store

Mike do you use an app to find good books to sell on Amazon or how do you know? I started selling books on Amazon but stopped sending ones as I was only going to make a couple bucks a book. I sell more stuff on ebay but would like to still sell books too to get more money.
@goldenstatepicker3 жыл бұрын
I use ScoutIQ it’s abs app that I pay $15 a month to use. Today a video showing me out in the field getting books. Soon an amazon tutorial. Amazon books require that you put in a consistent flow of books. Feed the beast as we say. Takes a few months to build it up but then you can count on a nice steady income from it. I use three pieces of software. ScoutIQ, repriceit, and scan lister.

I live just up the road from Commonwealth Picker and you're right about the area being beautiful. I've lived here all my life and can't imagine being anywhere else. That said, there aren't many in-store options for picking in tbe area, aside from Goodwill and a couple of other smaller places. Yard sales are frequent in the warmer months, but haven't yielded a ton for me lately. I'm no expert, if anything I'd consider myself a novice. I'm an intelligent person (I say that humbly and with gratitude to the good Lord) but for whatever reason, I really struggle with sourcing. I do best in the Goodwills, mainly because I feel better able to find a corner to hunker down in to check comps 😂 I'll pick up something and think "This has got to be worth a lot." and come to find out it's from Walmart LOL I'm getting better, but the progress has been slow. I love to learn and find so much value in your videos, and the many other experienced pickers who take the time to share their knowledge. I am doing all of this out of complete necessity due to some very complex and life-altering health issues. I am doing my best to learn and enjoy this chapter of my life, but I'm constantly looking forward to the day when I can be well enough to pursue the career I've worked towards but have been unable to settle into because of such poor health. Reselling allows flexibility and that's an absolute must for me right now, not knowing what symptoms each day will hold. I know I've rambled quite a bit, but it's all to say thank you for caring about other resellers out there. I'm barely scraping by at the moment, but as soon as fear and panic set in, a few sales come through and I'm reminded that God will continue to provide. One way or another it's going to be okay. Thanks for being unashamed to proclaim your faith. It's a great encouragement!

Rural areas like where I am, you may not find 160K worth of high end products to sell, but on the flip side we don't need to make 1/2 as much as someone in the bay area to thrive! You probably pay more in property taxes and gas than I need to make all year and live pretty comfortable! Not putting anyone down, just saying its a trade off,..
@goldenstatepicker2 жыл бұрын
It's clearly a trade off. My property taxes here are under $5,000 for a house worth 2 million, that's because of a thing called prop 13 where they weren't allowed just to readjust our taxes. If that was the case I'd be paying 20K plus and be gone. Only way I can afford to stay is my housing. Gas, yeap through the roof. Weather MONEY all the rest is downhill.
