Super interesting and intellectual convo!!! Favorite part was your discussion on faith and the unexplainable, specifically when you talked about the wonders of the universe and how God or a higher power could play into it. Interestingly when you do your research you'll find how the origin of science and math was historically backed by men/women of faith (catholics, Christians, and philosophers of different faiths/regions) to understand the world around them. There are a lot of religious people, who accept and also firmly believe that the scientific explanations regarding the origins of our planet and universe while at the same time affirming their faith in God in many cases as well. At the same time, there are those looking toward religion to explain what science cannot, and asking science to validate religious teachings--- so its really all a continous circle

Reconciling the exposure you’ve gotten to life and the ideals that might fuel your will to live result in nuanced, exclusive, and boundless worldviews. Devon is such a good host. I like how he asks such good questions and lets the guest talk. Dude seems hella down to earth. Every guest he has just feels like a friend. Devon just has a natural calmness to him. Also i like how Alyson Stoner is using her privilege (which she acknowledges) to make the next generation of kid entertainers better. Her Toddler to Trainwreck video was a bombshell and incredible. It’s wild how basically Child actors are basically people who work in customer service but have to smile all the time (even off-camera). Never saw acting as a job, but having to be on set for 9hrs is definitely work. I can easily see how a child doing all that while losing out on a childhood can be very traumatizing. Great interview. Great podcast.

Alyson describing how she came to a place of believing that she wasn't predestined to be with God is pretty heartbreaking to me. I sympathize and relate to her and the numerous other deconstruction stories that I have heard, but it is my belief that God is the source of the hope and wonder that we so desperately need. And I certainly hope we all find it!

Man, you can really tell that playing a character who was a guide for a particular time in life really touched Devon in a deep way. I think it's so great and respectable the way that Devon has seemed to carry that mentality throughout life. He seems to just have this need to connect with people and share experiences, and in doing so just try to help people. Devon's great.

Ok so the santa thing!! I've always wrestled with this because if I told them I'd be technically lying to them and if I didn't then I'm denying them the magic and the likelihood of them telling other kids santa isn't real and ruining it for them is high. So what I did was I told them about Santa as the spirit of Christmas and when they reach around 7 I take them out to lunch and I say something along the lines of "I have a very special job for you, I think you are ready to become Santa" and they have to pick someone like a friend or neighbour or family member and get them a nice gift, something they need and sign it from Santa and the person can't know it's from you. This means the magic never really dies amd they get to be a part of it. So in our house, that's what Santa is and the jolly man is just a representation of the spirit of Christmas.

As a parent, who does santa and the tooth fairy, its not about lying to my child, its about bringing the magic everyone else has around that year. I dont want my 5 year old going to school telling all her classmates that santa isnt real, and as a 5 year old, she would. Then youve ruined the magic for the rest of the kids. I think the real lie is when the kid gets an ipad and a computer and an xbox "from santa", and the kid next door gets socks. At that point, tell your kid your santa and give them the expensive gifts yourself.

There was always this preconceived notion that child actors aren’t educated for not pursuing college or being homeschooled all their lives. Here's the thing some famous kids don't really know how to read or write because the adults I'm their lives don't put school above performing.
