That was really good, Jay. I'm glad I found your channel. You explain things in a "layman's" language and not "over our heads." Great job! I'm new here and I'm looking forward to learning more.

While in the area of M36, M37, M38, I always go down a little more to the right side of Taurus' left horn and check out the Crab nebula. Then for me it's usually down some more to the right to the Pleiades cluster then across to the Orion nebula then the Rosette nebula then up to the Beehive cluster in constellation Cancer. All great finds and my wife loves that loop. Quick boom there's the next one before she loses interest. Works good for kids too.

You always put me in good mood, i'm surprised your channel is not viral. You have that inner peace and sincere simplicity of seeing things with a smile. I've seen other anstrnomical channels which lack this.

Hey Jason interesting video on these 3 targets and how to find them! I'll give these 3 targets a go weather permitting! That little triangle near capella I find interesting and the name kids. Well Jason I've got my first taster of the Huawei p40pro on Tuesday as it was clear in that dark sky location and wow the shots I got were fantastic in bottle 3 sky so I'm so excited now to try phone in darker locations. My first impressions on phone is wow! Winter constellations are just fantastic and these 3 targets aren't far from each other. Thanks for this video friend and I hope you have clear skies to observe these 3 deep sky objects!

I checked these out last night and had a cool experience. I found M36 and as I was panning to find M37 a satellite passed right through my FOV. Im a beginner so maybe this is a common occurance but I thought it was cool.

Another beginner friendly video Jason. Another tip to add to averted vision as an aid to help spot really faint targets is the tap the scope method. Whilst looking through the eyepiece just ever so lightly tap your telescope with your fingernail. As the human eye is far better at seeing movement this tiny tap can suddenly highlight the background image that up to then you weren’t seeing. Next clear night I’ll give these three a go

Hey buddy. Thank you . Yes, the old tapping the tube method.. I must mention that in a future video. Its a method I don't use much, purely because I forget about it.. Great tip. 🙂

Thanks, Jason! Another great tip I can share is to draw an imaginary line between theta aurigae and iota aurigae (i.e. Hassaleh), and right in the center of this line, you will find M38. From there you can move to the East and find M36. In my field of view (newtonian reflector, 150 mm of aperture - approx. 6 inces - 750 mm focal length) with a 30 mm eyepiece (which gives me around 2 degree actual field of view), I can see both M38 and M36. Fuzzy as I am in a light polluted area, but still distinctably recognizable. Hope you find that useful. Take care!

Hi Jason , really enjoy your channel , im quite new to astronomy so youve been a great help over the last couple of months. something id like to ask is where can i get hold of the knobs for the slow motion controls that you have ? I get caught on my long ones loads but i cannot find the ones you have anywhere, any help would be appreciated. keep up the good work
@smalloptics753

Hello Andy. Great to hear your enjoying the Channel.. If you are referring to the yellow knobs they are actually the locking knobs I just painted them a brighter colour so I could see them better in the dark.. But you are right about the slow-mo cables getting in the way. The declination is fine it's the R/A that's the problem it sticks out of the side far too much so what I've done is just remove it and use the large cog that the motor would attach.. You can get short cables though from telescope suppliers, there are some links in the description of this video.. Hope this helps. Take care.

Hello, Thanks for the awesome videos you put out, been helping me a lot, I know this is off topic but I'm thinking about buying a Sky-Watcher Explorer 200P-DS OTA and I was wondering if Its good for just visual aspect side of things without using a camera (for now) and wondering if so, what objects can I see?
@smalloptics753

Hello Kimo. Your more than welcome great to hear my videos have been helping you.. A 200 mm In my opinion is the perfect size for both seasoned and beginners. So yes the 200p- DS (the P stands for parabolic btw) is going to be perfect for you. You will also have the luxury of a dual speed Crayford focuser if you get the skywatcher.. The DS will be perfect for astrophotography as well if you do decide to get into that side of the hobby.. What will you be able to see with it ? It's more a question of what WON'T you see with it.. They are a great all-rounder. Good for planets, deep-sky, luner and photography.. You'll have a lot of fun with it... To put it another way.. Its the same telescope I've been looking at to buy.. 😀

@@smalloptics753 oh wow! I just had to look up what parabolic means lol It's a mirror that's really good for pinpoint accuracy. I'm also looking to buy the Sky-Watcher EQ6-R PRO Go-To Astronomy Mount. Can I use the Synscan Handset without a laptop/apps to find objects?

@@smalloptics753 That's fantastic! Thanks for the information, you're a big help! I'm still learning the constellations and using bino's for now. I'm making a list of things I need, and to understand how everything works before making the plunge later this year, All the best if you purchase the Telescope! I'll be watching your channel closely 🙂
