Nice explanation....sir but fingers represent current or magnetic field in this case?
@ExemplarPhysics
@ExemplarPhysics 11 ай бұрын
If your current carrying conductor is straight... Then thumb represents direction of current & circled fingers represent magnetic field. If your conductor is coiled as in case of solenoid, then circled fingers represent direction of electric current and thumb will indicate direction of magnetic field. Hope your doubt got cleared. i know its too late to ask this question but can u please helpme? what happens when a current passes through a solenoid in a complete circuit but the plus and minus terminals are not marked and a magnet approavches the solenoid at one pole. the solenoids pole where the magnet approaches becomes s pole. now why did it become s pole? this question came in my olevels p2 today and i couldnt answer it

How will we find polarity in horse shoe magnet then ?
@ExemplarPhysics
@ExemplarPhysics 2 жыл бұрын
If the solenoid is bent in the shape of a horse shoe... same process can be used for finding its poles. If you have a horse shoe magnet... whose poles are unknown then you can use a bar magnet (with known poles) to find out.

Sir but according to maxewell thumb rule ,thumb represents the direction of current but u said totally opposite .can u explain how to find poles of solenoid briefly by replying me
@ExemplarPhysics
@ExemplarPhysics 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your question. The purpose of the video is to make you understand... how to find the poles of a solenoid without using any extra rule. Maxwell's Right Hand Thumb Rule is for finding the direction of magnetic field lines around a straight current carrying conductor, if thumb is along the direction of current, then the circled fingers represents the direction of magnetic field lines. But in case of solenoid, the conductor is wound around a cylindrical core. To find the direction of magnetic field near the ends of the solenoid, the converse of Maxwell's Right Hand Thumb Rule can be used. (No need to remember, any other rule for it.) Field lines of a solenoid are similar to that of a bar magnet. The end where the field lines are emerging out, is the North Pole & the opposite end is the South Pole.

Can you please CLARIFY WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT, and directly and FRANKLY tell us what convention you are using for CURRENT FLOW, because in the REALS WORLD of Physics, the electrons are the ones are really moving.
@ExemplarPhysics
@ExemplarPhysics 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, in a current carrying conductor, electrons (negative charges) are moving. The convention is that the direction of current is taken as direction of flow of positive charge or the direction opposite to the flow of negative charge.
