Hey UnixGuy, quick question brother, I'm considering my options for Cybersecurity specialisations, just wondering, do Ethical Hackers have to at all lie to do their job? For example would I have too tell the company I'm working for, a lie, like make up stuff so I get vital information, so for example I say to them I'm from another company (when I'm actually not) to gain important information when testing their defences? I'm a Christian so I can't lie, would this affect me being a Ethical Hacker at all?
@UnixGuy9 ай бұрын
hey mate, no we don’t lie, if anything, you need a strong moral compass and ethics. What you attempted to described is referred to as ‘social engineering’ and we don’t do it randomly. We sign a contract that the company asks for, so we’re not lying, we’re testing the strength of the defences of a company to defend them against bad actors.
@preparationoftheelect20239 ай бұрын
@@UnixGuy thankyou heaps brother, Im thinking of becoming a ethical hacker and I already have a strong moral compass because of the Bible, so I'm glad you said that, is social engineering common for Ethical Hackers to do? Or can I just specialise in the other things instead? I probably will stay away from social engineering If I were to become a Ethical Hacker is social engineering mandatory or can I avoid it and still find work still?
@UnixGuy9 ай бұрын
It's not mandatory, but it's also not unethical. You can educate people about social engineering, you dont necessarily have to do it. Follow this roadma: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bnyamnSAbqeBopIsi=bpMFvTCFt0jZkmMl@@preparationoftheelect2023

I'm in a place where I had to decide to leave cybersecurity for later and start studying something short (just commerce and business school) and that will give me more chances to get out quicker of my current shi**tty job (especially the company) and start a stable and better one. It's just 3 semesters (I'm close to finishing the 1st) while I'm working full time. So it's stressful right now and I don't have time for anything else than working and studying. When I'm finally in a better place then I'll keep looking into cybersecurity as a hobby, at least for first. Still loving your channel though, thanks a lot for the content. Hugs from Switzerland🇨🇭

Really great advice, I definitely struggle with having a negative dialogue towards myself. Even when I put in a couple hours of hard studying I still feel frustrated with myself like I am not doing enough. I think this may stem from me career changing and comparing myself to my peers who are farther along in their journey. Definitely something I need to be more self aware of and work on. Also in regards to staying focused for long periods I found adding in some sort of physical exercise can refocus my mind. When I find myself getting distracted I’ll knock out a set of pull ups or push ups and I am usually much more focused after.
