This hits home , I'm in full panic mode after one year of retirement. I got bored and went back to work for the summer this year when I was supposed to be looking for a new home after selling mine, moving, and putting my household belongings in storage. Bought myself a new 2020 truck for a retirement present to myself and had to put that in storage also at 1000 miles. Everything I had is suddenly gone ! Friends, job, home, city surroundings, coworkers. All gone. I'm 62 ,no debt, in pretty good health, and have saved very very well so I just have to find a purpose. Anxiety of the job caught up with me and I wanted out when a retirement package came. I am now playing with the idea of moving to Rapid City, a place I don't really know anything about, and renting for year and get a part time job so that I will have some social contact. Depression , oh yeah. She made a very good point that I will take away. Look at options, make a choice right or wrong , and act on it. I've got the feeling that I've hit life's 2 minute warning and I can't make a mistake and waste precious time.

Just came across this video. Hope you have Dr Mitchell on again as this subject hits home. I’m still 5 years or so away from retirement. I’m looking to move overseas. Can you talk about the psychology of moving to a completely new culture and building a new life. Also can you review the tax implications on investments when considering a move overseas. Does a Roth still make sense over traditional 401k?

Very valuable information. I will retire in 222 days (yes, I'm counting them). I did the exercice of listing the things I don't like in my work but I added the need that wasn't met. From that list, I will be able to choose activities in retirement that do meet my needs. A huge thanks for that video.

Another lesson is to know yourself BEFORE you retire. Have a hobby, a volunteer outlet or a travel bucket list. Retiring cold turkey is unnecessarily hard.

This is the information I have been searching for! Retirement is a huge life transition, much like the transition from school/college to work with all the corresponding upheaval. Even if you looked forward to retirement (early or traditional) the change can feel disruptive and destabilizing in myriad ways. Finding your footing in this new season is an adventure. Great beginning, looking forward to additional conversations!

I’m about 4 years from retirement eligibility and I’m just starting to read and research about retirement. This is excellent information, analysis paralysis is an issue I’ve ran into and this talk brings it all into a much simpler and clear focus!!

I think a lot depends on the work environment you left. Was the job fulfilling? Did you have strong relationships with your co-workers? And what life activities did you postpone due to work. For me there are a number of items I wanted to do that were outside my job.
