hi loves, welcome back! in this video, I talked about how to find your style. I define style as the way you want to dress and how you express yourself. I also dedicated the first section of the video to how to build your confidence. always remember that if other people can wear it, you can too! given that you are not harming yourself or others in that process :)
And yessss i saw how some of you guys wanted to see a graduation vlog. I didn't have enough content to film an entire vlog so I dedicated the last 3-4 minutes of this video to a mini graduation vlog. I hope you guys liked it.
I don't usually make outfits video since it's not usually the first thing that comes to my head when I want to make videos. I am well aware this video isn't an actual OUTFITS video (apologies if that's what you were expecting). But do let me know if you guys want to see my essentials, clothings I wear or creating outfits. I always like taking suggestions from you guys!
anyways thank you so much for watching. i also wanna know who actually reads my description lol. if you made it all the way here, comment a 🐙 (octopus lol). anyways I love you all! Hopefully summer is officially starting for you guys! hopefully you all are doing well.
Next week's video will be a start of a new series: the healing diaries. I will upload episode 1 of the series and be explaining in the next video what this series is going to be about. in a quick explaination: journal entries but on a deeper and personal level on sensitive topics I don't share often. I consider journal entries to be more advice giving (although ofc I relate it back to myself). Healing diairies will be more of things I'm still struggling with or working on or sensitive topics I don't often talk about on the internet. I guess the differentiation between the two would also depend on how comfortable I feel about the topic. so yeahhhhh. ok anyways I'll see yall soon !!

A small tip from me: don't buy a lot of clothes while changing your style. Since style evolves over time it's highly possible you will not want to wear some of the clothes in a future. For me personally it's easier to buy a few clothes and wear them out and then buy replacements instead of buying full closet of my new aesthetic clothes. I'm poor and still want to look good and dress according to my style so I depend on minimalistic wardrobe. I ask myself if I really need to buy X a few time before making a purchase. Also, I let clothes I bought sit in my closet for a few days (with all tags attached). A lot of times I decidec to return something because I stopped liking it for some reason. Before removing tags make sure your new clothes goes along with your other clothes and you can make outfits. It's what I do to make sure I buy clothes that can be worn with most of my closet and are practical.

Agree on the don't buying a bunch of clothes at the start, but the rest is a bit of the opposite for me. My mom always nagged and bashed my choices of clothing ever since I was in elementary school because they weren't trendy. That's actually how fashion works; the populace always mimics what the rich wear, while the rich want the direct opposite to set themselves apart from the rest of the population. Plus, with social media, extreme niches are much more acceptable and even encouraged, so it doesn't even really matter if something's trending or not. Especially since fashion runs in a 20 year cycle.

Don't follow trends, wear timeless pieces 📝
@jcp5302
@jcp5302 Жыл бұрын
I think it’s ok to dip into trends if any interest you. It’s only when you over-consume and only get trendy pieces when it becomes an issue. You then end up with a ton of trendy pieces that you may get bored of when it isn’t popular anymore since you over-saturated yourself in it to the point of disinterest. This doesn’t only apply to trends though; it applies to any type of clothing and aesthetic. In my personal experience, I wore so many academia/preppy outfits at one point that I barely wear my sweater vests and my long sleeved button ups now. I still wear them but not as frequently since they kind of feel overused to me. It’s like music. Sometimes you listen to a new song so much that you get bored after a while and end up dropping it. Don’t try to limit yourself to just one aesthetic and try to get wear out of all your pieces. It’s ok to have favorites but try not to only wear your favorites if you are anything like me. My taste in style is a lot more eclectic now that I tried different things and stopped trying to fit into only one category like academia. That’s the thing: people always try to box themselves up into one genre of fashion when that just hinders their creativity and stops them from discovering new things they like. Edit: And of course I typed a whole essay 💀 oops

Few tips for keeping a sustainable wardrobe: -before purchasing a piece, think about at least 5 ways to wear it, or make sure that you will actually wear if often enough -when online shopping before you checkout leave the items in your basket and let some time pass, and if you really still want it after letting the initial impulse die down then go for it Lastly while fast fashion isn't cool, it's also important to not shame others for buying from these brands especially if it's for financial reasons. Shopping sustainably can get pricey. Thrifting/ buying second hand/ hand me downs are good ways to experiment with style that doesn't break the bank. Have fun with exploring

this!! it’s so sad that sustainable clothing can be pricier. and yes don’t shame those who have fast fashion brand clothings since we don’t know their financial struggles. however always try to see if u can find good pieces in thrift stores such as goodwill! clothing there are usually under $10!!

Three simple questions that help me a lot build my closet are “will i wear this at least 30 times?” “Does this match with any othe peaces I already own, and does the color match with my personal colour palette?” And finally “does the fit of this peace bother me or make me uncomfortable in any way?” This way I’m building a closet without consuming too much and I can wear comfortably every single peace. And all the peaces go well togheter so i dress up very fast!!! Love your video ❤

I’m so grateful you popped up on my recommendations because you’re so relatable! I used to wear basically the same basic outfits, just jeans and a tshirt and it just looked awful on me and I was so scared to wear what I wanted. I’m pretty much past that point, especially since I realized how many complimenting looks I get since I dress how I want to. A guy even asked for my number (that never happened in my life) because he liked my energy and guess what, it’s because I knew what I wore looked good on me and I felt like it. Take what she says to your heart because it’s amazing if you can get past this and feel confident!

with #8 (being happy in your clothes) this has taken me (and is still taking me) time to find a balance between a clothe's comfort, safety, and happiness. after being SA'd, i sometimes feel like i have to wear more masculine clothing to protect myself or be safe, but wearing really feminine clothes (whether like y2k/barbie or emo/goth/alt inspired clothes or sweet lolita) makes me the happiest. i wonder if other people have shared this struggle and what their personal safe/happy ratio is
@skye387
@skye387 Жыл бұрын
I have never been SA'd so I wouldn't claim to understand you. I grew up tomboy-ish but at the same time I happen to have more curves than most so I often feel the stares. Both of these fact made me feel that I had to wear long pants and baggy clothes all the time when growing up but then I'd also be called fat when I do that, so every clothes just felt wrong but I still wore it because being called fat was better than the stares. At the same time, I somehow found out about the lolita fashion and fell in love with it, but I have never worn it myself. I would imagine myself wearing lolita while actually wearing unflattering baggy shirt. Now my going out clothes is still mostly covered up long sleeves but they're more fitting that my body curves still shown and I'd either wore fitting long pants or short skirt-pants and feel more confident because with revealing clothes being more common nowadays, I still get stares but not as much as before but the other key point is also the fact that I will only wore those when I won't be alone by myself until I'm at home otherwise I'd still wear the unflattering clothes. That's my personal safe/happy ratio. When I'm alone or will at places that gives me bad feelings I'd prioritise the feeling of safety but if I'm with people and places I feel safe with, I'd prioritise the happiness. When in doubt, I chose safety.

"clothes are made to fit you, not the other way around" I feel like this is so obvious but so easy to forget. We get so caught up on what the number says on the label for sizing, like oh I should be a 6 so I'm only gonna buy size 6 clothes, but then you either never end up wearing it, or when you do wear it all you can focus on is how uncomfortable you are. PICK CLOTHES THAT FIT AND ARE COMFORTABLE you shouldn't sacrifice either of those just to wear things you think look nice. And yeah, it can be hard to find clothing you like in sizes that fit, but that's what makes finding that one special piece all the more special. You love your clothes more when they fit you well and feel comfortable.

I really agree when you said that we must wear what makes us happy. Back in college, I'm into KPOP styles but I'll hear a lot of 'she's so trying hard', 'koreanang hilaw which means trying hard to look Korean', and I'll admit that it kind of undermined my confidence. I'm not trying to change my nationality. I'm just wearing the clothes I like and make me feel confident and beautiful, but why do people have to step on the little hope I have? But fortunately, there's more people who say that my style is cool and I'm brave to show my personality. And they helped me realize that I should wear my style for me and not for others.

As someone with a bunch of different aesthetics and a fav one forming now (cyberpunk), I always viewed myself lost because of the quantity of different clothes I had. But what you said, "style is what makes you happy," really helped me. I am not lost just cause I am not always wearing the same style. I like all of them, and as an emby, having different styles actually help me when I wanna go for more of a feminine style, or masculine, or more androgynous or just everything and nothing in one. I have been taking this journey without even realising in the past 3 years, and only now I'm finding that it's OK to use different things and finding my fav one. 3 years ago, I started this journey. I still like my first ever style but just in a different way. I have always been the tomboy and always felt that I could not have different interests cause that would be weird for others who used to perceive me in a certain way. I could not like "girl" things, I could never be interested in fashion and so on. Via's vídeos have helped me so much to just do what I want and like what I like, even if its weird for others, and for that I can only thank you.

Honestly when it comes to finding styles it’s just like she said, just wear whatever makes you happy! I discovered most of my style through Pinterest and from there i discovered that I love the simple/minimalistic aesthetic. But I only found that I enjoyed this type of aesthetic through trial and error. Constantly wearing oversized clothing because I was insecure of my figure I realized that it wasn’t flattering for my body. But through time I realized that just a simple tee and baggy pants are what really suit me best lol 🐙

Growing up, i had my mother to choose outfits for me so it didn't really bother me what style or what i look on it as long as im comfortable, however, looking back before those styles never actually suit me. But now, i get to choose what will fit me. Although still had that problem about self-confidence, for i get really anxious when it's time for me to go out of our house. I felt like, my neighbors would talk behind my back and say something about what im wearing. So, yeah what you really say actually moved me and somewhat inspired me to just wear what i felt like.

*I remember after quarantine I had gained a lot of weight and insecurities, I would always wear baggy sweaters and pants all the time with my hair always covering myself since my hair had grown below my knees (indian genes). I had really severe acne and had went into depression because of family problems so my whole time back in middle school wasn't the best, and because of my low self esteem and confidence I struggled a lot trying to get back to the cheerful and carefree kid I used to be. After I began to see how my friends and other people online were so confident in wearing what they pleased and being what they're comfortable with, it made me question myself "Why am I wasting time being insecure when I have much more important things to worry about?" It was after asking that same question to myself over and over again that I had made up my mind to try and dress more like how I would want to see myself when I look in the mirror, and slowly I grew out of my baggy clothes phase and developed a style where I wore my real fitting clothes, started working out to lose weight, and cut my hair since it was only further encouraging my insecurities and also making my acne worse by covering my face. After that I felt more confident in myself even though sometimes I would get insecure, but no matter what I pushed myself to be comfortable with my body and myself which later on in highschool helped me gain more friends and help those out just like me, my grade with were in 60s boosted up to being in the 90s since instead of trying to worry about my insecurties like before, I focused more on my studies and friendships/relations. Clothes really can make someone a different person both mentally and physically*

thank you for this, i just really have to say that. for as long as i can remember, i find it difficult to find clothes which look nice on me. im not overweight not am i underweight, im just there. Im in those in between, awkward stages of my body becoming a bit more grown, ive hit puberty when i was really young (9) so ive always had this insecure image of myself. yesterday, i found this video and watched it in hopes of it actually helping me find clothes which make me look nice, but tbh, i was kind of not getting my hopes up because usually these typed of videos dont help me, but this time it did. Today, i experimented a little bit and i found myself being more confident and i really enjoy that feeling. From this video, i learnt to use these tips and they work really well. thank you again 🥹👍💗

I find the korean color theory very useful. It's a great tip to see if you look better in warm or cool tones. If you're more summer, autumn 🍂 or other type of beauty. Also, invest in good quality classic items. I don't have a lot of clothes, but some of my sweaters are from 7 years ago and look still amazing.

Although it was never too severe, I’ve always been insecure and anxious of what people think of me. That’s why this video (especially your first point about not caring what people think as long as you’re happy and your personal experience of growing self confidence) really resonated with me and almost made me cry😅 thank you because this is exactly the advice i need since I’m trying to improve myself through starting a lifestyle refresh including finding my personal fashion style💙

Something that helped me a lot was learning that just because I like something it doesnt mean i would look/feel good in it. Learning to differentiate between clothes/styles that I liked and would wear vs ones i liked and wouldnt wear was a real moment of clarity for me.

thanks Via ♥ your video made me rethink the relationship between outfits and life and my views on clothes. In the past, I always wanted to try out as many new pieces as I could, which has frustrated me because of an inadquate budget. What's worse was that spending too much on clothes would made me feel ashamed and anxious. I've attached excessive importance to external appearance. it seems to me that clothes I wear is the only way to express myself. "If I don't put emphasis on what I wear, I'm not take my life seriously."- such thoughts used to trap me. Nowadays, I'm still interested in various clothes and have the desire to try them on, but I've already realised that there are other things in my life that are worthy of attention and I am free to choose different ways of showing my attitude to life. Clothing is just an asepect of life but reflects many things, it's a thought-provoking topic. Looking forward to hearing more of your opinions on this. Hope all is well in your life! 😗

thank you so much for this video !!! bless the algorithm for throwing this vid at me just as i'm trying to figure out my style :') and damn, it really does boil down to confidence + trial and error, both of which i did not have/do during HS and college :< but now, as i'm graduating college, i've been slowly trying to push myself to actually go to the fitting room to try stuff on + take pictures, and i think its going well so far ! still working on the body image thing tho but i have started to buy one basic piece at a time :')

Ok i love your way of explaining things,the first minutes of the video were exactly how i felt and dressed. I'm trying to change it,i'm just really conscious of myself outside.. and well,inside my house as well. I always feel like everyone is watching me and judging me,which i know it's probable but not necessarily bad;i'm being perceived but i know people are not as horrible as my mind makes them out to be you know (at least not all of them,not generalizing things is.. a hard concept for my mind to grasp,i need to keep repeating it) Personally i'm insecure about my butt and chest,maybe my belly as well,which ruined my posture. When i entered highschool,i had a perfect posture,which seemed to annoy a girl in the same class and she was hell-bent on making it clear;;"what,you wanna show off how big your chest is?" And other comments similar from her part were the ones that made it hard for me to sit straight as before,i don't even have a big chest,but i wished it was flat thanks to her... i began to make myself look small,ruining my posture,besides everyone sat as if they were sleeping on the desk.. and i didn't want to stand out after that The same girl cornered me and while her friends held me from behind she lifted my shirt and poked my belly,telling me i was kinda fat,giggling and mocking me. She had anorexia,i found years later,so i guess i was her way of relieving stress as well,i dunno,she was horrible to me And lastly i used to use regular shirts until i heard one classmate of mine ( thought we were friends but i guess that wasn't the case,he kinda bullied me as well) saying i was flatter than the child actress in the movie,he was whispering to his friend,making fun of me while we were on the cinema all together. So i started using baggy clothes cause i hated people looking at my body after those kinds of experiences.... I know a comment section is not a place to rant,i apologize,it just kinda hit home since i was already having a bad day and this got recommended to me (i'm better right now though) Ah yeah i guess the rant will overshadow my question but... this is a really cute plushie,where could i get one? 6:30 (this comment was all over the place i'm really sorry,i really liked the video)

I just got some new clothes for my birthday, and a few of them are some pretty different things from my regular style. I have always worn pants at school (straight leg jeans that basically look like skinny jeans on me), but I got a black maxi skirt and platform-ish Mary Janes to go with them. I was walking around in the skirt, and I got nervous and felt weird thinking about wearing it in school. Like, I'm going to be sitting in a school desk in this super flowy skirt and then if I have to get up to talk to the teacher, it'll be like super obvious that I'm wearing a skirt? 😭😭 Im really excited about the style, and I'm going to try to build up the confidence to actually wear it to school in the fall ❤

This is my first video of yours. I watched 2 of your shorts and liked how honest you were w your vulnerable feelings, and also the funny attitude. I subscribed indecisively and am finally watching the videos. I must say, your words literally have so much impact. You are just a ytber miles away, don't know where, idek who you are, and don't remember your name as I'm writing this comment but that single "do it scared" changed my mindset. I'm not exaggerating. I always felt that i am not defined to just one style. I find street style cool, i look good in my indian traditionals, i love academia but don't find myself that aesthetic yet, i don't really like wearing girlie clothes but wanna try it once to see if actually suits me or not. I hate pink but that colour goes the best w my skin. I wanna experiment w different clothings, diff styles, diff colours, diff aesthetic, diff trends and diff emetions. This just doesn't apply to clothes. I really wanna make daily life vlogs on insta and yt but am too scared to upload those. What if my friends find it cringe, what if they think I'm such a dumbo, what if my 'cold guy' crush doesn't find it interesting??? I won't say that i will start making that rn after watching this video but I will definitely try to be more confident in what i do and less interested in what others see of me. Thank you so much for this video it really REALLY means a lot. And yes i won't be apologizing for my english here. I know it's not the perfect and i definitely have made mistakes in here but who cares?? I tried and will improve w time :))

i relate a lot bc i used to wear the same type of clothing that you did back in high school. I feel i'm a little bit better, but still don't know my style, just go to comfortable and more big clothes. My problem is that i'm not that super confident rn and clothes are so fucking expensive here where i live, its annoying. I realized lately that i've been using the same pant every time i go out (i work from home, so i don't really go out much) and that kinda made me feel sad, cause i don't have more options. I'm not comfortable going out with dresses cause i'm overweight and don't like showing off my legs, but i love long dresses and use it most of the time when i'm home. I'm looking foward to start being more healthy and having more courage (and money) to wear what i want. Thanks for another great video Via!

i love the off the shoulder tops/dresses you're showing in this clips; I think they suit you so well! Just a question on where you bought those loafers from in 10:15? I've really been wanting to wear dresses with loafers too but the ones i find on asos have so many bad reviews that it just seems almost impossible to find a good and affordable one. oh also that bit about high school being toxic and how your environment affects you and all that is SO FREAKING RELATABLE and now in my early 20's I am finally excited about trying different style i like that i see other people wearing. It definitely comes down to thinking you deserve to look good in something that makes you happy and empowered, I for one can atest to some part of it being a mental block and a remedy to it is just allowing yourself to experience that - give yourself permission babes 🥰
