Thank you. What size hexagons are you using? Good luck with it.
@patriciasmith69923 жыл бұрын
I am using 1 inch on the front and borders wit 1/2 for flowers in bloom and buds and 1/2 flowers. The stems and leaves may be 1/4 inch if I can find them. The back of the quilt is a scrappy friendship with fabric from friends and family. Some scraps from her passed grandma.
@patriciasmith69923 жыл бұрын
The back is 2 inch hexagons.
@juliethornton3 жыл бұрын
If you could do the bird with 1/4 inch hexagons it would be much more detailed but like you, finding templates for that size is very difficult and / or expensive. Lay it out with half inch hexagons and see if it will fit in your border before actually sewing anything.

That quilt is spectacular. You have to start making pdf’s of your patterns to sell.

Hi Dee. I will do a PDF of the underwater quilt once it is finished. Thank you for the long comment the other day. I went to reply and was unable to find the original message as the reply button didn't go to it so sorry I didn't reply but I was going to email you to say that but you have sent a comment here so all good. I have only been doing hexagons for about 6 years.

I think I gave you the wrong email address. Please set up a wishlist on Amazon with my book in it and I will pay for it. The shipping will be cheaper if you order it. Just search on Dorothy Huffman and my Hexies & More Journal will come up. SisterQuilters@yahoo.com is my email. I think I wrote gmail. I am on disability so I understand how it is to have crafts you love but you are restricted by a budget.

Thank you for sharing this tutorial Julie, have you got a pattern for this quilt.
@juliethornton3 жыл бұрын
Hi Debbie....I don't have a pattern for this quilt but if you look closely at the videos I have of preparing to bind it you will be able to get the general idea of it. It is just diamonds with other shapes around the edges and then 4 rows all around of mixed colours. Thanks

Did you quilt it yourself on a domestic sewing machine please. If so how did you do it. I have a very large one to do, I have left to one side as I got stuck with it really , then lost heart, ready to pick it up,and carry on again. Like your quilt,
@juliethornton Жыл бұрын
Hi Karen. I hand quilted this quilt as I do with all my quilts. I have some videos on how I do this and they can be found in relation to this specific quilt as well as in my series of lessone on quilting which show all the processes on a small item. I would not think of quilting on a normal cheap sewing machine as I know it is not up to the task and I figure that if I take the time to sew all the hexagons together than I want to continue the hand sewn theme to the quilting as well. If you have any more questions please feel free to email me about them. Thanks. Julie

Hi there could you please tell me what needle you use for the hexes and what thread you use. Many thanks I enjoyed your tutorial.
@juliethornton4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and commenting. I use Milliner's No11 needles (they bend but you get used to it) and Bottom Line thread by Superior Threads....it is super fine and doesn't tangle. It does fray as it is just 2 threads together but it isn't an issue.

Do you put your name on your creations?
@juliethornton Жыл бұрын
Hi Vickie and thank you for the comment. No, I don't put my name on the quilts as I only make them for myself so no need. If I were to make them for others then I would probably make a cross-stitch thing with my name and date and attach it to the back of the quilt. I know you can buy ready made ones that you just add your details but I would rather make it more personalised if I did them.
