How to firing jewelry enamel on copper (English subtitels)

Hi to everyone! In this video i will show you how to fire (melt) jewelry enamel on cooper. You can use the same method for fine silver
We need the following tools and materials for enamel firing
1. The kiln
2. Dark sunglasses (factor 3.0 or 4.0)
3. Long Tweezers, 4. Fireproof Mittens
I use ordinary cotton gloves with rubber (it's not the best for safety, newertheless, fine for me)
5. Prepared copper plate (watch the video "how to prepare cooper for enameling").
6. Trivet for cooper,
7. 2 sifters 80 mesh size or the smallast coffe sifters from mall
Professional sifters easy to buy at www.thompsonenamel.com or Etsy.
8. Counter enamel for back side and 1 color enamel you like.
I use enamels from Thompson.

9. Any brush, 10. Scalex (chemical composition, contributing to the separation of scale)
11. Alcohol or any cheap parfume from mall
12. Cotton disks, 13. Klyr-fire (the structure helping
keep enamel on a curved surface.

This list I will certainly give in the description of the video.
We apply Scalex on the face of cooper plate.
Leave to dry completely.
Wipe the back side of the blank with alcohol or low-priced perfume.
When working with enamel, it is advisable to use a respirator,
so that small powder particles do not enter the respiratory tract
Apply Klyr-fire on the same side.
It does not need to be dried. Immediately sifting the enamel.
We burn the workpiece in the kiln at a temperature of 800 oC or 1470 oF
During 1,5 minutes.
Enamels from different manufacturers have different melting points, do not exceed this temperature and do not delay firing time.
otherwise the enamel will be fired with "bubbles".
If the enamel is under fired, it will not lie flat on the surface.
This can be fixed during the next firing.
When you open the kiln, the temperature inside goes down.
this time is already considered firing time
However, the kiln should reach 1470 °F back.
On average, it takes 1.5 minutes.
Remove the cooper from the kiln and do not leave it to cool at the window or at the wind otherwise the enamel may crack.
After cooling the cooper, wash the Scalex with a pumice brush.
and process non-enamelled side by soda.
If the enamel layer was too thin like mine and slid off the edges. Grind scale at the edges of the workpiece by file #2 and apply a second layer of enamel in the same way.
while applying a second layer of contour enamel, I forgot to put on a respirator,but this is more a coincidence than a practice.
The second layer is perfect.
Enamel is applied on the front side in exactly the same way as the contour enamel.
As you probably know Contour enamel is needed so that soft burnt copper sheet does not bend and enamel does not crack.
You can use one enamel for both sides.
But once there is a special one, I use it.
It is necessary to wash and dry the sifter before using enamel of a different color or use one more clean sifter
Some enamel colors turn black when fired. Don't be scared.
This is ok! The plate will cool and color will return.
The first layer of red enamel turned out to be not very smooth.
I will put the second. The edges of the copper should be grind by file #2
after each firing.
I left the enamel in the kiln a little longer for 20 seconds
and it melted as it should.
I do not advise to firing Thompson enamels longer then 2 minutes.
The enamel is fired!

На серебро 960 пробы тот же способ или какая-то другая технология? Хочу нанести прозрачную эмаль на стрекозу из серебра, крылья у стрекозы с изгибами получится запечь так, чтобы эмаль не стекла в более глубокое место? И не потеряет ли форму само изделие? Спасибо

Vishnya4 Объемное литье я еще не эмалировала, чтобы эмаль не стекла ее не надо передерживать в печи, а чтобы не ссыпалась добавить пару капель биндера клир-файер в воду с эмалью. Вода дистилированная. Слой эмали тонкий.

Flux - это прозрачная эмаль, она бывает легко-плавкая Soft, обычной плавкости Medium, для серебра, и тугоплавкая hard, а также имеет различные легкие отиенки: желтоватый, голубоватый, никакого. Серебро кроме 999 пробы дает окалину. Это плохо, так как изделие нужно отбеливать после обжига, а от этого может треснуть эмаль. Предугадать невозможнл.

Только там где лежит эмаль (любая), во всех остальных местах образуется.
